Weekly Contest - Best Diary Game: After Storm "Eowyn"
Hello my dear Steemians,
It was very exciting day yesterday because the whole Northern part of UK, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland was in the area that was announced to be affected by storm “Eowyn” with predictable wind strength of more than 100 miles per hour. Because the whole storm was coming from western part, then Ireland and Western Scotland were the area of first strike.
The day before yesterday in the evening suddenly our mobile phones started to ring such strange and very loud sound followed by automated information about the storm and we were warned not to leave houses if not necessary for the whole day yesterday.
Here is the map and you see that red area is on West, we are at the same level as Glasgow but on East and we were in amber zone.
So, yesterday, we were at home and did not go anywhere, since early morning it was windy, actually we woke up due to that howling wind. Our main worry was our roof, because of strong wind we were not sure if our tiles remain intact or if they will be blown away from roof. While listening to news we found that more than over 150K houses had power cut. In our house on and off the light was flickering, but luckily we did not have any power cut.
Later in the night wind seems to settle and this morning it was no wind anymore but freezing cold.
This morning we decided to catch up on fresh air and went for a walk. The best place was to go to our park and once we were there we saw the devastating strength of the storm, many trees were broken and some were completely uprooted.

This tree was not very lucky despite of being relatively young we could see that it was completely our of the ground.
You might remember our lake in the park, I have posted the images before, this time we could see some of the trees laying in water too.
Actually, from the trees around evergreen suffered the most, maybe because they had a lot of needles and they were heavy. This is the path that we usually take but you can see that due to that trunk of tree we can not take this path.

Here is another tree and again uprooted you can see that it was a massive root and how much power the wind must have to pull it out of the ground. My hubby is completely impressed with that the power of the storm.
The park employees will be having a lot of work for the next few weeks. I am pretty sure there are a lot of work all around the place. The pictures that I took are all on a small area and the area of storm was huge. Luckily we do not have big trees in our garden so we did not have much problem with it.

This is one of the good thing I appreciate God for in our country Nigeria. Despite the high corruption rate in the country, we’re lucky not to experience some kind of natural disaster that happens in other countries.
I can’t even imagine having a corrupt government and natural disaster in one country, I don’t think there will be a country called Nigeria today.
I’m glad neither you nor your family members experienced any bad incident. The tiles that was removed from the roof as a result of the wind, is just a little set back.
Yes, we too, in this area were happy to have lukcy time this time, but there will be still some time for winter and spring that could bring more wind and rain, we will see.

Damn! The storm was really strong. Look at its handiwork. How would those roads be cleared now?
Majority of work is done but luckily we have weekend and many people stay at home.

একটা ঝড় আমাদের জীবনটাকে একেবারে এলোমেলো করে দিতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে। গত এক সপ্তাহ আগে আপনাদের ওখানে ঝড় হয়েছিল। তবে আপনার ফটোগ্রাফি দেখেই বোঝা যাচ্ছে কি পরিমানে ঝড় হয়েছে। প্রতিটা গাছ একেবারে মাটি থেকে উপরে পড়ে গেছে।।
গাছের ডাল গুলো ভেঙ্গে এলোমেলো অবস্থায় রাস্তায় পানিতে পড়ে আছে। আমার মনে হয় এই ঝড়ের সময় নিজের প্রয়োজন ছাড়া ঘর থেকে বের হওয়া আমাদের জন্য খুবই বিপদজনক। আপনারা আগে থেকেই এই ঝড় হওয়ার সংকেত পেয়েছেন তাই অনেক বেশি সাবধানে ছিলেন। কিন্তু সকালবেলা যখন ঘর থেকে বের হয়েছেন। তখন তো যে পরিবেশ আপনারা দেখতে পেয়েছেন সেটা আপনি আমাদের সাথে শেয়ার করেছেন। অসংখ্য ধন্যবাদ সাবধানে থাকবেন।
