Mango Delight

What makes your chosen dish so special to you?

Mango delight is a quick to make dessert because it requires no cooking and baking.

Special thing about this Recepie is the use of mango which is the backbone of this dessert.
It's a summer special dessert which you can make on eid, family dinners, and parties.

Mango Delight

Mango is the national fruit of Pakistan. It's abundantly found in summers in southern region. In grows in the region where temperature is high, it's not a fruit of northern areas.

In Pakistan, Multan has the special status for production of many varieties of mangoes. That's why everyone must make a friend who belongs to multan.

Mangoes are consumed in every house in different forms like: eating raw, Shakes, Chatney, Murabba, icecream, and delight.

Things required for it are mangoes, whipped cream, biscuits, sugar, and dry fruits (optional).

It is made by layering mango puree and crushed digest biscuits. Cream biscuits are not allowed in this recepie. I made it by applying a layer of biscuits followed by mango puree on top of it.

For topping, i sprinkled crushed biscuits on the corners of the container. In the center i made designs randomly of left over puree using toothpick, which gives this Recepie a unique look.

What is the story of your food captured photos ?

I captured this picture on bakra eid. Eids are the special occasions to make sweet dishes. My mother makes one of these things on eid:sawaiyan/Sheer khorma/Custrad.

I am not fond of any one of these so I decided to make my own dessert. I chose mango delight because:

  • I like mangoes
  • Recepie requires roughly 20mins

This whole bowl was finished in one day by me. Because no one ate it, half of my family members don't like mangoes, other half said we prefer sheer khorma over my mango delight.

That's why i had to eat it, it had minimum sugar quantity which didn't make it heavy to consume.

I shared it with my cousins also. I find one thing peculiar in desi household, they won't encourage someone if they make a dish which is not very common.

They will stick to their old recepie but wouldn't approve someone trying and learning new Recepie.

That's why when i make something new i make a space, in my mind to ignore the harsh remarks, or in the belly to not let the food go in waste:p

What emotions do you wish to convey?

The emotions i feel about this dessert are linked to the mangoes. The mangoes i used in it were from our agricultural lands. My dada Abu has planted mango trees on our lands 4-5decades ago.

In the life of my Dada Abu, those trees used to give two types of mangoes:

  • Desi mangos
  • Regular(large) mangoes.
    Both of them had green colours.

After the death of my daba Abu, the quantity of desi mangoes lessened.

However, regular mango trees are still giving fruits a lot, Ma sha Allah.

I feel very content and privileged to consume mango from the trees which were planted by my ancestors.

The taste of organic mangos of our own land is different than the market mangoes. Only those can relate who has eaten organic mangos.

If we plant trees now our next generations would thank us by taking advantage of them.

Mangoes are all time favorite specially when someone send as gift from Multan. I can write a whole essay on taste and texture of this amazing fruit. Nothing in this world can be compared with these delicious God gifts.And this is really a moment when some thing from your ancestors approach you. This becomes a source to connect with them. Prayers for your grand dad.

That's right if someone have to enjoy the mangoes, he must have a friend of Multan. Or a place where the mangoes can be produced. The recipe is very delicious and tasty in looking.
Sadly the season have gone, and we have to wait untile next season to see these mangoes and recipes. In'shAallah.
I can surely add that you are right the taste of our own land's fruit or vegetable is very much different from the market. I ate mangoes once, and in our city we can't plant mango tree here but, I have different fruits trees in my little garden. Those fruits tastes very much best.
I agree, The trees are for generations, and we have to do plant these trees where we can easily.
