The power of communication in our today's world can never be overemphasized and the reason is because it is only through effective communication that we can come to terms with one another, especially during an argument.

The first week of the Steemit engagement challenge this time presented us with a very unique and interesting topic which says power of communication skills. Indeed there is a difference between communication and having the skills so today through this contest we are going to look at the topic in depth.

Do you agree with the statement "Communication skill is the power"? Why or why not?

Yes, I agree with the statement communication skill is the power. Communication is a means of transferring information or messages from one person to the other or from one place to the other. This means that people get themselves informed about a particular thing with information.

Now, aside from communication as a means of passing or transferring information from one person to the other, there is also a skill used to properly transfer the information. A person may communicate with you but you may not understand the message he or she is passing and that is where the skills for this communication come into play.

So when you can communicate effectively to the understanding of your listeners it means you have good communication skills. Since we have good communication skills, we also have bad communication skills. So when a person is unable to pass his or her message to the understanding of his listeners it means that the person has a bad communication skill.

So from the above question, I strongly agree that communication skills are the power to effective discussion or transmission of message because your audience will get the chance to hear you and understand you better.

Can you provide an example of a situation where "Communication skill is the power"?

As a class teacher, I will want to give an example of how communication skills are the power, taking a classroom setting as a case study. You know how classes are usually very noisy especially when the teacher is not in the class.

When you come into the class as a teacher, the first thing you must do is to talk authoritatively and take control of the class so that everyone around will know that someone superior to them is standing in front of them to pass on information.

As you may have known, you must not always stand behind the people if you wish to address them. You must be in front and ensure that everyone is focused on you then you can start talking.

Also when talking, you must be sure that the message you are communicating is sinking and you can know this by asking your audience if they have any questions concerning what you have said so far and if they have other ideas they wish to contribute.

So when you do this, firstly you have succeeded in keeping the environment quiet because everyone will be focused on you and secondly you have been able to communicate and pass the message you have and finally you will ask questions to know if they got your message.

Some historical examples where "Communication skill is the power" led to significant change?

If you go to a place where there is a riot you will notice that it is always difficult to calm those who are rioting because what they want is for their need to be met and not everyone who stands to talk to them will be given a listening ear.

A case study where communication skill is the power is the Abba women's riot which took place here in my country Nigeria in the year 1926. Here the women came out in massive and protested for their rights and a dialogue section was organised by the leaders during that period.

The riot caused a lot of hold up in activities and for that reason, all the communication carried out to resolve the issue centered on meeting the needs of the women. They refuse to listen to anything that is not in line with their demand.

Those assigned to handle the issues understood the importance of communication skills hence they put in all their effort to meet the demands of the women.

How can one improve their communication skills?

To improve your communication skills, you must always try your best to read books and see how to properly use some words. Also, you must learn to be a good listener because when you listen well, you will learn well.

Furthermore, you must always put into practice what you have learned from the books you read or from your experience with others. If you read or listen without practicing then it becomes a complete waste.

Always engage with others and then be ready for constructive criticism as that will make you learn better. If you are been praised all the time without corrections then the room for improvement won't be there.

So always welcome criticism from others as it is a key means to improve your communication. You will always find a need for improvement when others find some fault with your presentation or your communication.

La comunicación es una acción de origen natural que todas las personas ejercemos. Sin embargo, a pesar de que emitimos códigos, no todas las veces nos comunicamos correctamente por ello es importante conocer cuáles son los canales acertados ya que, de esta manera es que se logra la comunicación efectiva.

Saludos amigo. Sabes en ocasiones sucede que no logramos que otros nos comprendan y se hace difícil el poder de la comunicación es por ello que es allí donde debemos tomar una postura hasta alcanzará entablar una comunicación efectiva. Cómo profesor veo que tiene mucha disciplina a la hora de tomar el control sobre sus alumnos y que estos puedan acatar la información. La comunicación efectiva y eficaz es muy importante, muchas personas a veces no logran esta buena comunicación y es porque muchas veces les faltan esas pequeñas habilidades para lograr que su mensaje sea bien transmitido y es que también a veces no sabemos escuchar, y para poder tener una excelente comunicación debemos también aprender a escuchar, ser buenos oidores y no solo habladores, para poder entender bien el mensaje.

Los seres humanos somos seres sociales por naturaleza, necesitamos estar en constante comunicación y interacción con todo nuestro entorno, es la única manera que tenemos para relación efectiva ya sea familiar, laboral, de negocios, etc, tenemos que buscar siempre la mejor manera de trasmitir nuestros pensamientos e ideas de una manera efectiva y eficaz.

Totalmente de acuerdo contigo amigo, cuando hablamos con una persona debemos estar seguros que su atención está en nosotros, para poder estar seguro de tu mensaje llego como debía y que mejor que estar de frente, es una de las principales normas del buen hablante y del buen oyente, mirar a la persona que habl, estar atentos, es una manera de mostrar respeto por esa persona que te esta comunicando algo.
