Steemit Engagement Challenge S6/W1 - List Your Childhood Outdoor Games, Which are Not Famous Globally

CANVA Artificial Intelligence

Greetings, community, today I come to participate in the challenge proposed thanks to the invitation of @cruzamilcar63.

Born in Venezuela more than half a century ago, I had the opportunity to have a very active childhood with my other five siblings; all boys.

By the 1960s, technology was in the hands of scientists and people with high purchasing power, and it was very complicated for the common citizen.

Therefore, for those of us who belonged to the lower-middle class, our form of amusement was in toys, board games and whatever could be done outdoors, either at school or where we were residing.

Every moment that wasn't for sleeping, eating, or studying, we took advantage of it to play and for that, we didn't need any instrument, we only had our inventiveness and we created any number of games.

Some of the outdoor games we made up were:

  • Cops and robbers.
  • Group chairs together to make a bus in the backyard using a hoop or punch bowl as the vehicle's steering wheel.
  • In the earth we made channels that looked like vehicle tracks or roads and the cars were shoes, wooden shells, or whatever was at hand.

And when it came to sports, any tin can, a sack full of old clothes, served as a soccer ball or a well-rolled-up pair of socks could be used to play baseball; the latter was one of our favorites, perhaps because Dad was a baseball fanatic and it was the most listened to on the radio.

The bat was a stick, a board, even a notebook, it didn't matter, the rules were adjusted to the moment and the tools at hand at the time of the game.

We had a lot of fun, constant laughter was in us and at night we were exhausted when we went to bed.

Regularly, we had a little rubber ball, but the first or second batter would bounce the ball on a home run and the desire to play would be red hot.

So one day my brother Luis found some socks, rolled them all up, and transformed that article of clothing into a rag ball with the dimensions of a baseball.

More than once Mom chased us with the leash for using the clothes to play; what fun times those were.

We used basic, simple rules that were easy to understand and follow, and if something became difficult, we modified the rules.

The teams could be of any number of players, they could be two players, one per team or they could be five and five, the idea was to have fun, to play, to spend that energy of children.

The playing fields were according to the number of players, so we played in the street, in a vacant lot, in the backyard, in the living room, and even in a room; our mind was the limit, that is, there were no limits.

I think that in Venezuela and perhaps in the planet many children played something similar, but playing with clothes and making them pass through balls, I do not think there were many before we did not depend on electronic devices, only our minds and the desire to play.

Another game that fascinated us was the "War" game.

We were an army of soldiers in defense of a country, we wore clothes of the same color, we pitted our faces with dirt and mud, we wore any hat as helmets, the weapons were sticks and we started the adventure through terrains in search of the imaginary enemy. We jumped over obstacles, crawled in the dirt, and got into puddles, everything was disgusting.

Our dogs accompanied us to play and this became absolute fun.

One day, while jumping from one stop to another at the height of more than three meters, my brother Tony fell and had to be taken to a hospital.

He was convalescent for more than 20 days, almost losing a kidney.

But we never played this exciting game; it was forbidden by our parents.

I am always grateful to the universe for having lived through that time because it made me a creative man that today has served me as a tool.

I also had the joy of being one of the first to play with consoles, which was fascinating and today I practice the current games that are on the web and that have a fascinating realism.

Every era has its attraction and I have enjoyed it all so far and now I do it with my children.
