Finding Happiness: Adopting Aristotle's Perspective Of Happiness

I have been reading quite a lot these days just to get off my emotions and stay afloat, now I realized the more I realize how this life thing is, the more I see myself getting close to defining myself and my existence. I went online to just see how different people see happiness and how they were able to find their happiness, it took me lots of time to see great philosophers who found out happiness and what it really meant to them.

The first person I actually resonated with his definition of Happiness was Aristotle, some of you might have read articles about him and wowed at some point at his philosophical prowess, according to him, he sees happiness not just as a temporary emotions (put it fleeting emotions) but as a state where one is flourishing and living in accordance to his or her virtue and deep reasons to life. Now this is where it gets more interesting, he thinks happiness (of which to me is true) isn't just gotten from the wealth of this world but primarily from the actualizing your dreams and living to it.

I have really think about all of these things he said and I can tell you for free that true happiness isn't even about the money, it's not about how far you have gone in life but from being able to know the true reason for your existence, staying on course on why you were sent to planet earth. I have seen families that have so much to spare but lack happiness, where I come from, we had a neighbor who has fleets of cars, some times while growing up, I do wish I could be like them and for real I envied them but the only thing I never understood was why they would be fighting each other, so this definition of Aristotle has clearly opened my eyes to the possible cause of that their constant fight.

Now, there is more to being happy drinking alcohol and merrying, though the happiness that comes with it is fleeting, it can never be sustained, I realized this so I try to put myself in a state where finding my happiness and living in it comes from realizing what I ONYIYECHUKWU OKEKE was created to be and not to the demeaning things people derive happiness from.

I am more satisfied with Aristotle's definition of Happiness, my friends I would tell you, happiness is a state one can get in if you have discovered your true purpose of existence, it's not a mirage, it's something you can feel and right now I will tell you that I am feeling it, I am seeing the results, it's working, I am living in it. In the course of this journey to discovering happiness, I will be sharing another notable philosopher and his own definition of Happiness, for now digest this and let me know your take.

I APPRECIATE

First and foremost, I think it's important not to leave your personal definition of happiness up to society. Happiness can mean something different to each of us. Because it's such a central theme for humans, many philosophers have grappled with it. Personally, I can only think of those who find the pursuit of happiness rather harmful... @ty-ty can surely recommend more literature that approaches happiness from a philosophical perspective.

Okay, I understand your point of view, but I am personalizing the perception, not like I am trying to put it out for people to adopt (i don't knos if I am able to say it the way I should). Happiness to me is an individual thing and I think I have really resonated with Aristotle's perception to it.

Oh no, then I expressed myself incorrectly ;-)) What I meant was that, ideally, you should choose your own definition of happiness. Most people (in my observation) leave this definition to others. In the sense that one is happy when one fulfills most social expectations... You are wealthy—you must be happy. You're beautiful – why do you feel unhappy...? Something like that.

You are very right, i truly understand you, so I think I can go on with my own perception about my happiness, thank you for always sharing an unbiased opinion.

Love and light.
