How Is Democracy Functioning In Your Country?

Nigeria became democratic independent when we gained our independence from Britain in the year October, 1960, but then, it wasn't really a much considered act of government untill May, 5th, 1999. This seemed to be a good dear for Nigeria especially for the fact that they were free from Military government and atleast the citizens were given equal right to vote their preferred candidates to government, this was done peacebly.

The act of democracy became adulterated when civilians took over the government from the military, the tenets of democracy till date has been adulterated and nothing seems to be working, no freedom of speech, the media doesn't own their right again to speak. Right now democracy is a thing of the past.

The world witness one of the heaviest peace protest tagged #endsars and #endbadgovernment which was orchestrated by tired and grieved citizens at the Lagos Toll gate which later interrupted by government thugs, killing the innocent citizens who needed nothing but a fair government to treat us right. This really showed Nigerians that we are just being ruled by people who use democracy as a backup plan to get themselves governmental seats so they can suppress the masses.

Democracy in Nigeria is now a thing of the past as anyone who wants to be bold enough to speak for the masses is considered a threat to the present day government and the politicians will stop at nothing to silence such person one way or the other. Democracy lost its taste in Nigeria far way back when it was birthed because citizens are being forced to vote for who they don't want to see on the government seat, but this is the sad reality the citizens of Nigeria are facing.

Is Your Country Free From Domination Ruled?

After we gained our independence, we have been free from external domination, atleast for all I can know and say right now, Nigeria is not under any sort of external government determining the affairs of the country and this is a good one for us.

But on the other hand, Nigeria is not free from internal domination from one part of the country, these set of people forms a strong cabal in the political system determining who is to rule and who not to lead Nigeria, this set of people makes democracy seems like just a word and nothing more than that. They determine who the assign seat for and could kill as much as they can just to gain political relevance, they are solely in charge of different laws made in the country inorder to satisfy their greedy needs.

Is Your Country Self-sufficient In Food Production?

When it comes to food production in West Africa, Nigeria has been taking the lead, we have one of the largest and biggest rice pyramid in West Africa. Also, we produce one of the best Cocoa and Millet in Africa.

The immediate past regime banned the importation of rice and we are still very much okay with our local rice, this goes a long way to show how well we are when it comes to farming and production of food. The southern part of the country export more than ten thousand tonne of fish every year, this is one of the biggest any country in Africa could blast of.

How Is Youth Employment In Your Country?

Youth employment in Nigeria has been like one of the hardest thing to comprehend owing to the fact that investment done by our top business men are being done outside Nigeria, the little we have over here are not given to qualified candidates but through slot taking and connections.

Secondly, Nigeria has recorded a high rate of unemployment that went up the chart to about 70%, very high for a single country who produces over 100,000 graduates every year, this is the situation we have found ourselves and sometimes we just can't stop surviving, just living from hand to mouth.

What You Want Your Country To Look Like?

Though it always seems it is nearly impossible but I wish Nigeria allows democracy thrive, where voices of the masses will be heard and the cry of the children and aged will be taken into cognizance.

I do dream of a country where insurgency wouldn't be played with but rather taken as a threat to the peace of the nation. A country where peace and tranquility really matters to our leader than fattening their accounts.

I dream of a country where political leaders won't empower a fraction of the population because they want to be voted for on election days. A country where vote will be casted to the man for the job not the man who wants the job.

Lastly, I need a country where equal right will be practiced irrespective of gender or age. This is the Nigeria I need, this is the country our pat heroes died for, this is the country people sacrificed their lives for and untill we are heard, Democracy still remains tasteless.

I invite @emily08 , @wirngo and @goodybest to participate in this contest if they are yet to do so.
