Hello guys, welcome back to this spaces, trust me am happy to have you here. Let me specially appreciate this community for coming up with this beautiful contest for the week. I decided to hop in on this because I've got somethings to share along this line which I hope you would find interesting.

Introduction

The issue of gender equality is such a sensitive one and if we are not careful we could overstress it or even get bias in the process but in the case of this contest I love the fact that we are picturing it from a particular angle just as it has been stated in the intro part of the contest post..

Every citizen is entitled to an equal and discrimination-free life.

I totally agree with the submission here, indeed every citizen regardless of the gender is entitled to every right and privileges the government has to offer. Moreso, he/she also has the right to leave a discrimination free life. Discrimination is one of the problem we have in the society today, I hope this is totally dealt with in our world.

What does gender equality entail, and what are the advantages?

I think I will do well with my explanation when I break the term Gender Equality down to make it more simpler and comprehensive. That term is a combination of two word "Gender" and "Equality". Gender here talks about the sex of an individual, basically we have two kinds. We have male and female.

Now to "Equality", equality means fairness in all ramification, without any form of bias. If am to put both definition together, I would say gender equality simply means a situation where both male and female are given equal right and opportunity. A situation where there is nothing like bias, discrimination or segregation.

In order words, what a male enjoys as a citizen is also given to a female because she is also a citizen and not less of a citizen in a democratic setting.
In a nutshell both gender have equal right to all manner of rights and privileges including good living.

The benefit of this is that no part of the gender will be segregated and seen as non important. Another advantages is that both gender would get every right and privileges due to them. Everyone would have a voice, such that when they speak it won't be made light of because they are all equal.

Is gender equality crucial for all people, not just women?

I know there is this preconceived we have that anytime we here the word Gender Equality/inequality, unfair treatment of the female folks comes to mind. We always perceive they are always being cheated on the society. Well I might be wrong with my assertion but trust me, this is how a typical African perceive that statement.

Our women are loved and respected, culture might want to deprive them of certain rights and privileges such as restraining them from going out to work and support the families but it think all of those have changed over time as civilization keeps hitting this part of the world.

Back to the question, gender equality is all inclusive, non is excluded. Do you know that in some part of the world, it is the male that fall victim, they seem to be excluded or face discrimination but with the call for gender equality, everyone becomes equally.

What are your thoughts on gender equality, specifically concerning the circumstances in your country?

My country is doing really well when it comes to bridging this gap, it's just that sometimes our culture would want to interfere into matters like this, all thanks to civilization which has made us realize that woman should also have a voice and say in families and even the affairs of the country as a whole via politics.

There is still these subtle discrimination even in the political scene of my country. It's hard to see a woman emerge as a leader especially political leader. This is gradually being remedied though as we can now see women emerging as leaders in the capacity of local government chairlady, counsellors, Honorables etc but when it comes to presidency, it seems to be far from them.

What does this tell us, they still feel the other gender do not have the capacity to rule the nation as a whole. I know we are getting there and I hope we get there soon but before then, let's see how capable the female gender is to take up such sensitive leadership position. I think the men out there both qualified and unqualified are waiting to see if it worth stepping down for a woman to lead in that capacity.

How to educate our children to understand this issue?

We have to educate our children to be all inclusive and void of discrimination. We have lingered this long on this matter because the older generation has been passing the message of inequality to the younger ones and it became transgenerational.

We have to to teach our children to regard both gender as unique and both qualified...that none of the gender is less of a human. Even in the home where God has made the man the head, the man shouldn't abuse the privilege by seeing the woman as a lesser being.
The head cannot stand without the neck, the neck supports the head and as such must be valued.

We have to educate our children to aspire to become whatever they want to especially our females. They can be what they want to against the cultural and the societal odds that are there to limit people. I would educate them to dream big and be ever confident. None of the gender is less of a human. We are just uniquely created.

Conclusion

Gender Equality in is a topic that must be approached with all sense of care because it's a sensitive one. We must be careful not to overstress it at the detriment of a particular gender. It must be approached with all sense of inclusion such that everyone can have a place and feel appreciated for who they are as we didn't create ourselves.
