SEC-S19 / W2 | " Life without electricity"
I am delighted to announce my participation in the second week of the 19th season of the Steemit Engagement Challenge, organized by Hindwhale Community . This week's fascinating theme, "Life without electricity", invites us to imagine and explore how we could adapt our daily and professional lives to a world without the electrical energy that shapes so many aspects of our modern existence. Through this exercise of reflection and analysis, I will share my perspectives, challenges, and solutions for navigating such an environment. Join me on this intellectual adventure where we will rediscover natural resources and ancestral skills for living without electricity.
How would your daily life and work life be without electricity from now onwards?
My daily life without electricity would be profoundly disrupted. As soon as I get up, the absence of electric light forces me to adjust my rhythm of life to the natural cycles of the sun, waking up and going to bed earlier. Cooking would become a laborious exercise, requiring more traditional cooking methods such as the use of gas stoves or outdoor fire pits. The refrigerator no longer works, I would have to find alternatives to preserve food, such as salting, drying, or using natural cellars. Household activities such as laundry and cleaning would also be more arduous, without the help of modern machines. With the heating and air conditioning out of commission, I would have to resort to more rudimentary solutions like firewood in winter and natural shade in summer to regulate the house's temperature.
Professionally, the absence of electricity would pose even greater challenges. Without computers and the Internet, the majority of my professional activities requiring digital technologies would be interrupted. Working remotely would become virtually impossible, forcing me to find alternative means of communication and collaboration, such as in-person meetings or exchanging postal mail. Documents would have to be written by hand, significantly slowing down productivity. Office equipment, such as printers and photocopiers, would become unusable, making document management more complicated. For lectures and presentations, we should return to traditional methods such as the use of whiteboards and manual overhead projectors. In short, my daily and professional lives would be marked by a constant adaptation to older and less efficient methods, requiring great resilience and a total reorganization of my habits and work processes.
What kind of equipment would be required to live a hassle-free life?
To live without electricity, I would need a set of alternative equipment to meet my essential needs efficiently and sustainably. For lighting, solar lamps would be essential to ensure a reliable source of light at night. When it comes to cooking and heating water, I would resort to gas or biofuel stoves, which offer a practical and environmentally friendly solution. To stay connected and continue to use some essential electronic devices, solar batteries, and chargers would be necessary, allowing me to charge equipment like phones and tablets. Additionally, for drinking water supply, rainwater harvesting systems and efficient water filters would be crucial, thereby ensuring a healthy and accessible source of water for daily household needs.
To ensure food self-sufficiency, domestic agricultural equipment would be essential. This includes gardening tools for growing vegetables and fruits in a personal garden, which not only provides healthy nutrition but also reduces dependence on outside sources. Food storage solutions like airtight jars and traditional preservation methods, such as drying and salting, would become essential to preserve harvests. Finally, for entertainment and leisure without the use of electronic devices, books, board games and manual activities such as drawing or carpentry would offer enriching and stimulating alternatives, allowing time to be passed pleasantly while developing practical skills. and creative. In short, this holistic and multifunctional approach to equipment would allow me to lead a relatively comfortable and hassle-free life, even in the absence of electricity.
Would you be able to cope with life without electricity?
Communication with the local community can also be strengthened to exchange experiences and resources and support each other. By collaborating with my neighbors, we will be able to set up community gardens, share equipment and know-how, and organize collective activities to maintain a feeling of social cohesion. Additionally, the absence of electricity could be an opportunity to rediscover and appreciate simple and natural activities, such as reading, board games and crafts. By cultivating resilience and adopting a self-sufficiency mentality, I will be able to gradually adapt and find creative ways to maintain a satisfying quality of life despite the challenges posed by the absence of electricity.

Some people are still in the habit of this method you mentioned. People in Ladakh region of India cut the meat into pieces, salt it, dry it and cook it occasionally because there is no electricity.
I am not sure whether the contest creators have asked in case there was no electricity in the world or if was it a random case for a day or two. My answer would be different in both these cases but I am prepared to face the situation as I have lived in an area where there was no electricity until I was seven. I must say, you have your proper reasons for how you will cope with the situation.
