"Steemit Engagement Challenge S6/W2 - What steps would you take to save the soil?"

in Hindwhale Community2 years ago (edited)
Land conservation, the environment, and nature have a deep connection with each other. So if we treat them the way we are treating them at present, the destruction is certain.

We are working against the environment rather than protecting it, which will prove fatal soon. We are already late, but we should wake up now and work for soil conservation and to protect our environment. That will not only contribute to the cause of soil conservation and the environment but also contribute to the existence of this world.

Although in our culture, importance is given to protecting the environment, we are doing the opposite of what we should be doing. We all know that the word "environment" is the fundamental framework for how we preserve the environment around us and keep it suitable for life. Land, environment, and animals are related to each other, and this makes the environmental protection concept an integral part of our thinking and policies.

Screenshot (543)22.png

A sense of environmental protection was always present in humans, but as the industrial revolution began and emphasis shifted to the development of infrastructure, the environment and soil conservation were destroyed. There was no national forest policy or environmental working organizations in the world, but we were aware of the environment and worked to keep it stable through our regular activities. Lately, our focus has shifted to infrastructure, which is one of the primary causes of decreased land area for forestation, which has resulted in rapid desertification.

Screenshot (543)21.png

I went through various desert-related reports to see what the latest situation was and at what rate the deserts were increasing, and what I found is that the situation is scary.

According to Wikipedia, there has been a 25% increase in global annual dust emissions from the late nineteenth century to the present day. And the increase in desertification has also increased the amount of loose sand and dust that the wind can pick up, ultimately resulting in a storm. For example, dust storms in the Middle East "are becoming more frequent and intense in recent years" because "long-term reductions in rainfall are promoting lower soil moisture and vegetative cover."

Wikipedia

It is important for a stable environment that we run a campaign as its representative to save the existence of the universe made of earth, water, fire, air, and the sky.

You know that in order to maintain the balance of the land, we have to keep all 33% of the land on earth in a healthy state, and there is no other way than to preserve this one-third of the land and keep it healthy; otherwise, nature will not tolerate us, in fact, nature would die an unnatural death.

Earth, water, and plants can be helpful for us only when we protect them at all levels. The importance of this huge concept of environmental protection, whose relevance has increased so much today, has a close relationship with the lives of all living beings and the entire natural environment of this earth. Due to pollution, the whole earth is getting contaminated, and the end of human civilization is visible in the near future.

Screenshot (543)44.png

Now we can see all over the world the damage being done to the environment due to human interference with nature. Expanding deserts, cutting down forests, vanishing plants and animals, water contaminated by pollution, increasing air pollution in towns and cities, and increasing floods and droughts every year are the signs that we have not taken proper care of the earth and its environment.

Today, people all over the world envision a more pleasurable life. Nature has the burden of this infinite desire for our happiness. The world’s increasing population, the development of new technologies, and economic development have all contributed to the continued exploitation of nature. The problem of environmental degradation is a major challenge facing the whole world today, and has to be addressed by governments and conscious public opinion.

Today, all three of our basic building blocks—air, water, and land—are in jeopardy. The crisis of these three natural gifts is worsening in the lives of humans who have reached the pinnacle of civilization development. Because of increasing pollution, forests are disappearing not only in metropolitan cities but also in small towns and villages. In the absence of trees, both the purity and quality of the vital air are decreasing.

Water, like air, is essential to our survival. The water crisis these days is multi-dimensional, with both its purity and availability being badly affected. A large quantity of the surface water is polluted, and the groundwater level is continuously going down. Urbanization and industrialization have poisoned the lives of our perennial rivers. This is another reason the soil is eroding and the situation is getting worse by the day.

Our soil’s health is poor because the world’s forests have become extinct and the area of the desert is increasing. Because of ongoing deforestation, the soil in the upper layer of the land is washing into the sea with the rain. Due to this, the age of dams is decreasing, and due to the accumulation of silt in the rivers, the crisis of flood and drought is increasing. Today, the developments taking place in the whole world have raised the challenge of existence in front of nature.

Screenshot (543) 55.png

Today, efforts are being made at many levels around the world to make the common man aware of the various aspects of this challenge so that he can receive timely information about the facts threatening his existence, and measures to improve the situation are also being taken seriously. The role of the media in shaping public consciousness is critical.

Environmental issues made their presence felt in the world in the second half of the twentieth century. Environmental issues have gained widespread public attention in many parts of the world.

Knowledge of environmental protection measures is essential for every level and every age group. The consciousness of environmental protection can be meaningful only when we can save our rivers, mountains, trees, animals, birds, vital air, and our earth. For this reason, the public should be aware of environmental issues like air, water, and flora and the activities of nature-oriented life around them.

Necessary changes have to be made in school education for the younger generation to have a better understanding of the environment. All subjects will have to be taught through Eco-friendly mediums so that every student can understand his environment better. We will have to force our governments to implement policies while monitoring the environment.

A feeling of love and respect for nature, a simple way of life, and a new consciousness for forestry will have to be awakened. Today, our priority should also include a clean and safe environment for life.

For this, we have to connect every citizen of the world with an intensive and inspiring public awareness campaign with no delay. We accept that the green environment is the symbolic power of human life, and with passing time, our real energy has also decreased.

Home is the first school of education in the truest sense, and this also applies to environmental education. Elder members of the family can give this lesson to the children through many examples, such as:

-We have to adopt the culture of "saving" by removing "use and throw."
-Use a rainwater harvesting system in every building.
-Plant trees in your house and neighborhood, and take care of the plants because they absorb toxic gases and keep soil healthy.
-Don’t throw garbage near bodies of water like rivers or ponds. This waste goes into the river and pollutes the water.
-Use cloth bags, say "no" to polythene and plastic; that saves jungles, and hence the soil remains firm.
-Put as much food on your plate as you can eat. Even the smallest contribution helps save the soil.
-Switch off the electrical appliances when not in use, and save energy by using CFL bulbs.

  • To reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere, we should use solar energy, increase the use of solar cookers, but use less fossil fuel. That helps save jungles and trees.

  • Use "power saving mode" on all your gadgets.
-Walk or bike for short distances because energy saved means soil saved. Every minor act helps save soil.
-Minimize the use of packaging materials. We should know that one-third of industrial waste comprises them, causing immense harm to the soil.
-Avoid using disposable items like plastic glasses, small water bottles, and plates because they go in the landfill, which makes this world even more unlivable.
-Give a sapling as a gift to your near and dear ones on special occasions.
-Do not burn garbage, dry leaves, crop residues, or waste. Due to this, the organisms living inside the earth die and the air pollution level increases.
-Always keep in mind the golden rule of the three R: recycle, reduce, and reuse.

    Screenshot (543)888.png

And this will not happen by the doing of any one person; we all, as citizens of the world, will have to come forward to save resources. We shall have to take up this issue beyond the walls of countries, but the people of the entire world will have to unite.

Speeches, films, books, and articles cannot save the environment. Every human being has to understand their responsibility toward the earth. Only then will we witness a significantly improved earth.

Conservation of soil is our responsibility and duty. Because the number of arable land in the world is decreasing day by day due to soil erosion. If this continues, crop producing land will disappear within the next 40 years. So we should make advance preparations to face all kinds of natural and man-made disasters. For example, using organic fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers in the soil. It increases soil fertility. And soil is conserved.

So true my dear friend, I am very much sure, this topic will bring out hundreds of new view points which will open the eyes of readers. However, the fact is people will keep doing what they are doing right now. Because it's not easy to maintain a balance between industrialization and soil conversation. Thanks a lot.

Yes you are right. But if we are aware of our own place, there will definitely be some change. Not without saying a word. All the pesticides that are now in the market which when applied to the crops make the food unhealthy, we all should stay away from them.

Soil contamination and environmental pollution are closely related. Therefore, it is up to us as people to protect the environment first. The expansion of the world's infrastructure and technology are mostly to blame for this environmental harm. We can yet find a workable solution if everyone in the world pays attention to this. Thank you for participating.

We should take precautions before the situation goes out from our hand, before we live in desert with hunger and lastly wiped out from earth.

Thank you, I believe the situation is already out of our hands. However, we must try to save the situation as much as we can.

Thank you, friend!

This environmental damage is mostly due to the growth of global infrastructure. Environmental pollution and soil pollution are directly related. So it is up to us as humans to start by safeguarding the environment. If the entire world pays attention to this, we can still come up with a reasonable solution. Good luck for the contest.
