Steemit Engagement Challenge / S19/W1 - "Power of communication skill"

in Hindwhale Community5 months ago (edited)
As one of the professionals in the field of marketing starting from a low level and reaching the top of the ladder I know that communication skills played a major role in my progress. I have a lot to say in this matter as I have attended hundreds of seminars and thousands of business meetings where I have listened and delivered speeches in different capacities.

I would love to invite my learned friends @simonnwigwe @josepha and @suboohi to show their views on this topic which is the lifeline of any business or relations to participate Steemit Engagement Challenge / S19/W1 - "Power of communication skill"

Do you agree with the statement "Communication skill is the power"? Why or why not?

Some of my friends know that I am a marketing professional, so I have studied communication skills as one of the subjects in my management course. Communication skills are the abilities you use when giving and receiving different types of information from your coworkers, peers, and friends. You communicate your thoughts, feelings, or even updates on your project to your clients or team.

Communication skills are all about "how to talk effectively with others and convey your message.". Communication skills are all about how you put your point and express your views so your point is understood by the other person in their right perception. If you can explain your point to the other person successfully and the other person can understand it, that means your communication skills are perfect.

Remember, communication is an interaction between two or more people; therefore, proper context and how you speak and share your views play a major role. So, to get your point across, you have to learn how to do it directly and indirectly, but the ultimate object is to make your point reach the other party clearly.

Can you provide an example of situation where "Communication skill is the power"?

Communication skills include listening, speaking, observing, and empathizing. It is also helpful to understand the differences in ways of communicating in face-to-face conversations, phone conversations, and through digital communication, like how you use this method in seminars, project presentations, and customer meetings. Apart from this, you can send your views via email or express yourself via social media.

If you can convince and impress others with your communication skills, make them satisfied with your words, and express your points in a way that satisfies them, you know the importance of communication skills.

There are different ways to communicate, but we can categorize them into three sections

Written communication, verbal communication, and nonverbal communication or expression, and most important of them all, listening carefully to others' points of view, paying proper attention to what others are saying, and trying to understand them because we can not communicate effectively if we try to convince them without paying attention to the others and knowing the point of discussion.

One should give his full attention, ask questions for clarification if necessary, and give verbal and non-verbal feedback to show that he is involved and knows the topic well. For example, during a team meeting, active listening includes maintaining eye contact, nodding in agreement, and paraphrasing what others have said to show understanding. And yes, a smile does wonders while making your point go through.

Nonverbal communication refers to messages conveyed through gestures, facial expressions, and body language. Remember, your gestures play a major part too, which plays an important role in how others understand and interpret your communication. For example, maintaining an open and confident posture, smiling, and using appropriate hand gestures can increase communication effectiveness.

Remember, we should know the importance of respectful communication, which means treating others with respect, courtesy, and consideration. It includes valuing different perspectives and opinions, even if they are different from your own. Respecting the opinions of others creates a positive and inclusive work environment. During the interview or in your cover letter, emphasizing your ability to actively listen, appreciate differing viewpoints, and provide constructive feedback demonstrates respectful communication.

We should also know the importance of feedback, as giving and receiving constructive feedback is crucial for personal and professional growth. It includes making specific and actionable suggestions to help others improve. Being open to feedback and responding positively also demonstrates your willingness to learn and grow. In an interview, you can highlight examples of where you have given or received constructive feedback, emphasizing its positive results.

Clear communication is essential to accurately convey ideas and information. This includes expressing ideas clearly, using appropriate language and tone, and structuring your message concisely and systematically. In your cover letter, resume, and interview responses, focus on demonstrating your ability to express yourself effectively, using simple and concise language that is easy to understand.

Communication skills include making sure to listen carefully to the person speaking to you. Whenever you are speaking, sit up straight and make eye contact with your client. Remember to speak confidently, be positive, make eye contact, and smile.

Some historical examples where "Communication skill is the power" led to significant change?

I am from the corporate world so I have the honor of listening to Mukesh Ambani, the richest person in Asia and the twelfth in the world. You can listen to his speech: Empowering the Future, which changed my mindset to a great extent.

Mr Ambani said,

My dear family, once again a very warm good evening to each and every one of you present in the hall.
Over the last 40 years, I have been very fortunate to lead Reliance. Everything I am today is because of Reliance. Everything I know today is thanks to Reliance. This evening, I want to share with you the most important lessons I have learned from my father during this phenomenal journey. The first lesson is courage, and I have seen it in a whole lot of you.
Nobody has ever achieved anything big in business or in any walk of life without courage. Of course, whenever you do anything big, you do feel a little scared. But you got to conquer fear to discover the hidden hero within you. With courage, with self-belief, and the can-do spirit, you overcome any adversity.
Therefore, I want today’s young leaders in different business fields that achieved your potential is the quest of the ordinary. Conquering the impossible is your destiny. The second lesson I have learned is feel empathy. Empathy means caring and sharing with every human being in our organization and the world at large.
The more we care, the more we grow as human beings. I understand empathy, which is the costliest asset one can have. It is the wealth of your heart. The more you spend it on others, the more wealthy you become. The third lesson I have learned is to have absolute faith in technology and talent. In every business we have started, we have always embraced the latest technology and attracted the best talent.
When top technology and talent work together, they produce unbeatable creativity, innovation, and invention. Like my father, I value trust, loyalty, and a direct, heart-to-heart relationship.

This is Mr. Ambani's speech with a few of my words

How can one improve their communication skills?

To summarize, effective communication skills are the key to building relationships, fostering collaboration, and achieving success. Effective communication promotes teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving, improving productivity and positive outcomes. Improving your communication skills for personal and professional growth will help you explore your prospects and career options.

If you want to present yourself in a better way in front of anyone, then it is very important for your communication skills to be better, and for that, there are some easy ways to improve communication skills.

We should keep our body language working for us, which means our body gestures are important whenever we talk to anyone because they play an important role in getting the attention of the person on our entire body. Whenever we speak, our body language should synchronize with our words. If we know the importance of body language, we can win half the battle and impress our audience.

Speaking with confidence is another way of expressing our thoughts in front of any person, or large gathering because if you have no confidence in your words, then no matter what you do, so I put confidence in words and expressions as the second biggest point of communication skill.

I keep using the right words as the third biggest method of successful communication skills when we talk to anyone. We should not only use the right words but also pronounce them in a perfect way because imperfect use of words can never influence the person listening to you, and all your efforts will go in vain because wrong words or pronunciation distract your audience.

Listen to the other person carefully

You can respond to any person's words in a better way only when you listen to them correctly. You must have seen most people who never listen to others, they only keep talking about themselves. No one likes to talk to such a person, but if you listen to the person in front of you completely and then answer him, then there is a different style in your talk because if you have heard the question of the person in front correctly, then your answer is also better, and to increase your skills, you should put the most emphasis on this point.

Keep better eye contact

Whenever it comes to improving your communication skills, often the first advice given by people is to talk to the other person by looking into their eyes, and this is completely correct. If you talk to the other person by looking into their eyes, then there is confidence in you, and the other person is also impressed by your words. In such a situation, your interest in the other person's words also increases, and the other person's interest in your words also increases, so always talk by looking into their eyes.

Interpersonal communication skills are crucial in many spheres of working activity. Main ideas described in your post
Ideas expressed must be clear, and that is the reason why people speak clearly and with no many intermissions. It is better to skip the terms which are too specialized or that are likely to require too much explanation. Then do not use long sentences; rather, choose easy sentences that will pass your message.

Adapt your language and the specific tone in relation to the situation. When writing a cover letter or a resume, be formal. When interviewing, hold on to respect, as you introduce yourself into the organisation’s culture.

Organize your thoughts systematically. The information should be arranged in order for best effect, this can be either by paragraphs or bullet points. For example, in one of the most common types of application documents, the cover letter, a three-part concept of the introduction-body-conclusion can be applied.

Listening encompasses responding, question asking and the display of care. This fosters good relationship and keeps you on the same page with the speaker.

I wish you good luck in this competition you described it well
