So, hope everyone is holding up great. Yesterday, in one of my posts' verification from friend Heriadi, I saw I am a few Steems short of being in the club5050. So, thought to catch up with that by engaging in this amazing contest by @jyoti-thelight. So, here we go.

One of the most important lessons given when are new to the steemit is to power up and increase your Steemit power. Earlier there was this big competition #spud4steem by Kiwiscanfly with grand prizes as a promotion. Why is that? Is it that much essential? Well, you will understand once you finish reading this.

• When we go to our wallets, there is a drop-down menu in front of STEEM, as shown in the below screenshot. Click it you will see the power-up option.

• Click that option, enter the amount you need to increase the power, and then you can confirm the transaction with the active key. Here we go.

The importance of Power Up

So, now to the interesting part. Why we are doing this? Powering up means, we are converting our liquid steem into a staked state. The transaction ability of the tokens is less, but the influence from it is much higher. Just think about the times we open a fixed deposit in a bank, using our liquid cash.

As I say, Steem power is proportional to the influence we can give in different matters. Mainly, our voting power increases. So, we can appreciate quality content, support newbies, etc. In return, we receive curation rewards accordingly. Or else, we can strengthen as a community. We all can delegate it to the communities and form an account with a higher power to have more rewards for more people.

And you see this process automatically strengthens our accounts and helps to keep us on the radar. As it shows our commitment and faith in the blockchain and will have more reputation within the Steemians. This is why Steem Power is considered as a criteria to unlock many opportunities, like Steem or Country Representatives, community curators, moderators, etc. And also, a vote with higher steem power can directly influence on witnesses.

After all, "STEEM POWER increases at an APR of approximately 2.69%" as shown in the wallet section. It's like receiving an interest. Apart from an individual point of view, this helps with blockchain and stabilizes the Steem price as well. So, always a win win situation.
