Communication is a practical means of passing knowledge from one individual to another. Sometimes one may pass information but is not understood by the other person, in this case, I will say there is no communication.

To be able to make effective communication, there are certain skills one must gain to succeed, one of which is the ABILITY TO KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE. This means we should be able to know the people we are communicating with, try to find out if we are using clear terms, and if the person or people are understanding what we are saying, when we do this we will be able to pass information effectively.

Another good skill is the ABILITY TO LISTEN, Many people have the problem of concentrating while others are talking, if we are such we will not be able to communicate, we need to be good listeners, we have to pay attention to what other people is saying without interrupting so that we will know what point to say, if we are not attentive we will not be able to communicate. These and much more skills promote active communication.

COMMUNICATION SKILL IS THE POWER

Communication skills are the power behind effective communication, when we are skilled we will be able to know which skill to apply at a given time, and we will be able to pass information to our listener's understanding.

Good communication skills:

1. Being a good listener

2. Asking Questions

3. Recognizing our audience

4. Concentration

5. Self-confidence

6. Brief and straight to the point.

7. Warm and empathy

8. Giving all the needed information (complete).

9. Respectful

10. Simple and clear terms (concise)
    Etc.

If we are acquainted with all these skills, and apply them, we will have positive results in our communication.

EXAMPLE OF WHERE COMMUNICATION SKILL IS THE POWER

When I was in school, my lecturer was not available to handle her class so she sent a representative to stand in for her, this representative did not have communication skills, and she did not understand what she wanted to pass to us, so she started giving out what nobody was able to understand, at that point my fellow students started murmuring and cause chaos in the class, she walked away.

You see at that point there was no skill as a result no information was passed, we all left and waited for the lecturer.

Nelson Mandela is one of the good examples who used good communication skills to free his people.

" I HAVE FOUGHT AGAINST WHITE DOMINATION AND I HAVE FOUGHT AGAINST BLACK DOMINATION, I HAVE CHERISHED THE IDEAL OF A DEMOCRATIC AND FREE SOCIETY IN WHICH ALL PEOPLE LIVE TOGETHER IN HARMONY AND WITH EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES. IT IS AN IDEAL WHICH I HOPE TO LIVE FOR AND TO ACHIEVE"-NELSON MANDELA

Nelson Mandela, in his speech, emphasized unity and change, he knew his audience that was why he used simple and clear terms to pass the information briefly and respectfully. We can see he uses four skills in this simple information:
1 Knowing his audience
2 Simple and clear terms (concise)
3 Respectful
4 Brief

This simple and brief information led to freedom which is a significant change.

HOW ONE CAN IMPROVE IN HIS/HER COMMUNICATION SKILL

1. Be mindful of not giving out communication that is not verbal

2. We also need to be practical

3. Vary our tone

4. Prepare in advance

5. Build our intellectual

6. Be Bold

7. Be relaxed

If we practice all these steps, our communication skills will be improved, and we will be able to pass effective information

Conclusively, Communication is a practical means of passing knowledge from one individual to another. Sometimes one may pass information but is not understood by the other person, in this case, I will say there is no communication. communication is very vital in our society, but its importance may be Little if it is not effective. For our communication to be effective, we need to develop skills such as; Being a good listener, Asking Questions, Recognizing our audience, Concentration, and Self-confidence, etc. Even if we are not good at communicating, we improve our communication skills by; Being mindful of not giving out communication that is not verbal, being practical, Varying our tone, and Preparing in advance, etc.
