I probably used a photograph of the above rose, although this photo has not been used. I also worked on it with my photo-editor. If you look closely toward the bottom toward the right side of the photo you should be able to see a small helper (spider).

This weekend’s post I am including some photographs of micro-greens I am growing. Those of us living in the northern climate zones have to purchase fresh greens during the winter months. I have grown sprouts and then later hydroponics to have my own fresh greens. Last year I learned about micro-greens and started growing some. This year I have not had time to start my hydroponic units. I had such good results with micro-greens that will be my focus for now.

Also I need to make more room in my plant room and eventually will expand my lighting and thus be able to grow using micro-green techniques and hydroponics. I also have a kale plant that is 1 year old and still producing. I am growing it in a container. I will discuss more on micro-greens later in this publication when I upload some photos. Those photos are not the best. It seems the extra light I use in the room interfered with getting a good photo. I will work on this in upcoming posts.

En el post de este fin de semana incluyo algunas fotografías de los micro-verdes que estoy cultivando. Los que vivimos en las zonas climáticas del norte tenemos que comprar verdes frescos durante los meses de invierno. Yo he cultivado brotes y luego hidroponía para tener mis propios verdes frescos. This next photograph will brighten your day. I am not sure what flower it is. I takes many of the flower photos and may not look at them for months. I cannot always recall what flower it is. Instead I focus on its beauty.

This next photograph I believe is from my wildflower garden. Again I am not sure of the plant. If I recall correctly it is a small flower growing close to the ground.

Micro-Greens/Micro-Verdes

Micro-greens are small plants that are harvested when they are small. When planting they are seeded close together. They are harvested when they are only a couple inches (centimeters) tall. Sometimes, for the larger varieties like sunflower and peas I let them get larger. They can be planted in potting soil or on biodegradable mats like jute or hemp. I prefer potting soil. Smaller seeds I usually seed on top of the soil and press down with a square piece of wood. Larger seeds I may cover the seeds with some more potting soil. I still press them down. In a couple of days they are sprouting and I set them under or near lights. Some people use their window sill. In approximately 7 days I start harvesting.

I make a salad or I will use a blender to chop and liquefy the greens. If I blend them I usually will add a watery fruit like cucumbers and maybe a sweet fruit like an apple. A wedge of lemon goes well in the mixture. I started blending them for my wife and found it quite tasty myself.

I have read that like sprouts they are very nutritious.

Los microverdes son plantas pequeñas que se cosechan cuando son pequeñas. Al plantarlas se siembran muy juntas. Se cosechan cuando tienen sólo un par de pulgadas (centímetros) de altura. A veces, para las variedades más grandes como el girasol y las arvejas, las dejo crecer. Se pueden plantar en tierra de macetas o en alfombras biodegradables como el yute o el cáñamo. Yo prefiero la tierra para macetas. Las semillas más pequeñas las suelo y las presiono con un trozo de madera cuadrado. Here are several trays ready for harvest. On the left sunflowers, then lentils, and finally a mix called Salad mix. Salad mix has many varieties related to cabbage including cabbage.

Here is the finished product. My "green Juice" for breakfast. I store some of the juice in a jar in the refrigerator for when my wife is ready to eat. I am currently using a NutriBullet for blending it into a juice. I also have one of the early Vita-Mix units that also can be used. Some people use a blender. Then of course all the greens can be chopped and made into a salad.
