This monument is located in the central courtyard of the House of the Governors, in the Historic Center of Ciudad Bolívar, between Amor Patrio Street, in front of Plaza Bolívar; and Constitución Street, diagonal to the Bolívar State Government.

⚡ On February 16, 1823, Juan Bautista Dalla-Costa Soublette was born in Ciudad Bolívar, «the most remarkable man Guayana had in the second half of the 19th century», according to Héctor García Chuecos.

⚡ He is called Dalla-Costa, son, to differentiate him from his father Juan Bautista Dalla-Costa, a Genoese merchant who arrived in Venezuela in the year 1814, an active contributor, with financial resources, to the Republican cause.

This statue, inaugurated in 1869, is the oldest of those existing in the country.

⚡ When Guzmán Blanco came to power in 1870, the supporters of the Illustrious American overthrew Dalla-Costa; but Guzmán himself, aware of the qualities of the distinguished Guyanese, appointed him Plenipotentiary Minister in Washington, in 1874. From there he returned to deal again with the Government of Guayana.

⚡ Dalla-Costa was almost two years ahead of the famous decree of Guzmán Blanco on public, free and compulsory education. His indisputable merits led him, albeit unsuccessfully, to be a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic.

⚡ Died in Ciudad Bolívar, on February 10, 1894, the illustrious Guyanese who was the progressive President of today's Bolívar State.
