This week I have decided to take a break from the Philippine National Police wall paintings because my last two posts were about them already. Instead, for this week No.48, I will be posting about a different kind of street art which I saw along the walkway of the People's Park at Palma Gil corner Magallanes Streets, Davao City, Philippines. Most street art involves painting of either people, objects, words or even just letters. But this one is different. It involves metal and metal art!

To begin, this is how this street art looked like when I first saw it.

This is one of two metal towers installed along the street at the entrance to the city's one and only theme park, The People's Park. Carved, or perhaps the better word is etched, on the brass metal are the different aspects, customs, fruits, animals in the island of Mindanao where Davao City is located.

A closer look at the metal art above shows a fruit basket at the lower section showcasing the different fruits the city produces such as pineapple, durian, papaya, mangos, lanzones. The upper section in the photo above shows a tribal chieftain with his young wife holding up a spiky round fruit which is called durian.

On top of the tribal chief holding the durian is another sculpted figure of a farmer with his carabao (water buffalo used to help farmers till the land), a Christmas scene and orchids at the uppermost section.

The sculptures are on all sides of the square metal towers and done by a well-known artist, Kublai Millan.

Ray Mudjahid Ponce Millan better known as Kublai Millan or Kublai is a prolific artist from Mindanao. He is known for his giant sculptures. Aside from being a sculptor he is also an art photographer, painter, digital artist and performance artist. Wikipedia

I am not sure if this is acceptable for this contest because this is not graffiti, strictly speaking. However, as street art, this definitely fits the bill and I hope this can be considered. Plus, the level of difficulty makes it worth another look. Thanks for your time. I hope you liked it. Stay safe, healthy and in peace. Good luck to all the participants!
