Contest // Monuments And Sculptures Of My City Week 52 - The King Of The Jungle

Every morning I bring my grandson to school. It so happens that his school is right in front of a park that boasts of a covered basketball court and another one that is not covered, a tennis court, a children's playground, and finally an oval walkway which also acts as a jogging path around the perimeter of the park. This park is a project of the Maharlika Lions Club. If you are not aware, the Lions Club is an international civic organization that promotes the betterment of the lives of people around their communities. They provide assistance to poor people. They provide financial assistance during crises and calamaties and they have educational assistance to children and other financially handicapped but qualified people. The club's symbol, of course, is the lion.

This is the main sculpture found in the park. Notice the writing below the statue which reads WE SERVE. Around the jogging path there is also a small statue of three lions as well. Here they are:

DC Maharlika Park. DC stands for Davao City, which is the city where I live here in the Philippines. Maharlika means man of wealth or also a noble warrior. The park is lined with palm trees, pine trees, bamboo trees and numerous fruit trees. It is a very popular place and a melting pot of almost everyone living within the subdivision where the park is located.
