Focusing On Results, Not On Excuses

in Project HOPE2 years ago

When you watch athletes perform in an event, you will understand one thing; when the time for awards come, it will be based on the results obtained and not on attempts. So no matter how long someone attempts a particular thing and no matter how much energy he expends in the process, what will matter at the end is the result he is able to command. So if something does not seem to work at any attempt, it is not time to make excuses why it did not work nor complain about it. The only thing to do is to figure out how to make it work, because that is the only thing that counts.

One of the reasons why people repeat the same mistake that they did in the past and consequently face the same failures that they experienced in the past is because they obviously did not learn from their past mistakes. This is because, most times, people feel the need to give excuses for why they failed or even start to throw the blame game. Because of this, they will not know the exact reason why they failed and they are at a risk of meeting the same fate in the future. It is true that humans have the propensity to make certain mistakes, but the wise thing to do is to ask why the mistake happened in the first place, then correct it and learn from it, so as not to repeat it again.

It is worthy to note that if an individual has not taken time to analyse their errors and their failures and not know why they happened in the initial, they may likely happen again. When something did not work as you have expected, instead of blaming the system or someone, or even giving excuses, what you need to do is to find out why it did not work as expected, then from there you can learn a few lessons and be better. It may not be bad to make mistake at the first trial, but what is bad is when the mistake is repeated over and again without learning a single thing from it.

The truth is that, no matter the degree of the excuses you were able to coin out, it will not be enough to make up for your lack of performance. The only thing that will make up for it is by doing the right thing and obtaining the right result. If people understand this, they will not spend time in creating excuses, rather they will channel that time in learning from them and then moving towards perfection. It is true that perfection may not be a destination, but you can make progressive efforts towards it.

Maturity is not measured in the speed at which you create excuses (obviously, some people can create excuses from thin air), but maturity is basically measured in your willingness to take responsibilities even when things go wrong, and then learn from them to be better. When you make mistakes, do not be quick to give excuses why it happened, just tell yourself that, at least, this is one of the proofs that you are making attempts, then try again with the lessons you have learnt from the first mistake. Trust me, the world will be a whole lot better if everyone that would have given excuses own up the responsibilities for their actions.

At this point in this era, people are no longer moved by excuses - they have heard it enough, what move people now is result. So they do care less about why it did not work, but they now care more about ways it will work. Remember the popular story of Thomas Edison? When he was interviewed and asked why he had so many failures, he responded that they were not failures to him, rather they were part of the processes in his invention. You see, he did not make excuses why it did not work, rather he converted his errors into something worthwhile. At least, he was able to figure out why it did not work the first time.

There is nothing that makes one less productive like excuses. This is because, when someone has already made up his mind to give excuses about something, he will not bother to give his best towards that particular thing and both his creativity and productivity will be affected by it. So in conclusion, one thing to remove from your mind if you must succeed is excuses mentality.

When we understand this, everything changes, but as long as we have embedded the chip of excuses, everything will remain the same and we will not be able to evolve. If we keep doing the same thing and making the same mistake, we will never advance towards success.

Well said. Someone cannot repeat the same mistakes and expect to experience success in life.

Thanks for coming around buddy

Hello my friend, absolutely right, there are people who only focus on giving excuses or looking for someone to blame for their failures, instead of concentrating on what went wrong to correct it and learn from the mistakes, which really helps to achieve results .

Instead of looking for who to blame, it is better they take corrections and attempt to be better.
Thanks buddy

hello @samminator
From mistakes we learn a lot, but the important thing is to be able to recognize where we are wrong to not repeat them in the future, excuses do not help at all, but rather make us people with little conflict resolution, we must be creative to not make the same mistakes, as it will have the same result.
thank you very much for sharing

Well said. When mistakes are made, the right thing should be to take corrections and be better.

Thanks buddy

The only thing that actually counts is the results. I like how you said that - it doesn't matter how much energy expended, if there's no positive result to show for all the hard work, then there's problem. Nobody gives awards for attempts or excuses, but for results. We should be result oriented, if we want to make our mark on this planet. Thanks for posting buddy.

Exactly, we should always be result-oriented, because that is the only thing that counts.

Thanks buddy

I couldn't agree more...And truth to be told, there is a type of people who deserve to get a Ph.D in making worthless excuses. Something that makes me wonder what would happen if they used that time and skills to find solutions for their mistakes rather than crying about them

Thanks for sharing :) @samminator

Excuses do not get rewarded, only results get rewarded.

Thanks a lot for the nice comment buddy

You have made some really good point here... In life, what really matters is the results and not how it is gotten as far as it is gotten the right way. Successful people focus more on what they want to achieve and not make excuses if things dont go as planned or smoothly. Determination is key to getting the desired results in anything we do.

That's right. What matters is the result. So we should focus on that and not on excuses.

Thanks for the nice comment buddy

Right buddy, the society is not moved by any type of excuse rather it is moved by result. It is best to get up and disregard every form of excuses and procrastination.

Nicely said. What people are out for is not to see your excuses but your results.

Thanks buddy

Perseverance is the key to all success
