Holiday Commerce: celebration translates into purchases and spending

in Project HOPE24 days ago

Hello friends of Project HOPE, I hope that your weekend is progressing very well, and that you are preparing to start a new week in good spirits.

Today, which is Father's Day, I was reflecting on it, and how (practically) everything has become something commercial. Holidays like Father's Day and Mother's Day are special occasions to honor and celebrate our fathers and mothers. However, behind the gestures of love and gratitude, there is an inescapable commercial reality: these celebrations have become important drivers of commerce, translating affection into significant purchases and spending.

On Mother's Day, the culture of giving is a central element. Finding the perfect present to show our love and appreciation drives people to spend on a variety of products. From perfumes, watches and technological gadgets for fathers, to jewelry, flowers and beauty products for mothers, retail experiences a considerable increase in sales during these dates.

Advertising campaigns play a crucial role in this phenomenon. Companies launch special promotions and attractive discounts to capture the attention of consumers. Advertisements on television, radio and social media are designed to appeal to our emotions, suggesting that love and gratitude are best expressed through material gifts. This advertising bombardment creates social pressure to participate in this tradition of gift exchange.

In addition to gifts, Father's Day and -especially- Mother's Day celebrations often include family gatherings and special meals. Restaurants and cafes offer special menus and promotions to attract families who want to celebrate away from home. Those who prefer a more intimate celebration at home invest in quality food and beverages to prepare a banquet worthy of the occasion. These additional expenses further contribute to the increase in commerce during these holidays.

Online commerce has also revolutionized the way we shop for these celebrations. Digital platforms offer a wide range of options and the convenience of shopping from home. This ease can lead to impulse purchases, increasing total spending on gifts and products related to the celebrations.

Despite the commercialization, it is important to remember the true purpose of Father's Day and Mother's Day. Beyond gifts and shopping, these dates are an opportunity to express our love and gratitude to those who have given us so much. The experiences and moments shared are invaluable and transcend any material gift.

But we live in a world that is commercialized, and has focused almost everything on economics, it is the reality, at least that is how I see it, don't you think?.
