Psychology of Survival: Triggers of Stress.
There are certain triggers of stress when in a survival environment. Sometimes these triggers happen one at a time, sometimes many happen simultaneously. Recognizing these triggers, and planning for them, helps with handling them, and surviving them.
Injury, illness or death.
Being injured from hostile action; being ill from something we ate; can stress us to the point of incapacitation, destroy our will to live and possibly leads to death.
Being injured or ill can also make it more difficult to make good decisions because we are in pain; so it’s harder to find and prepare safe food and water; and protect ourselves from danger, making it harder for us to survive.
So please, do not take unnecessary risks, because accidents happen when we’re careless.
Uncertainty and not in control of the situation.
When is the next artillery strike? When is my food going to run out? Is the water going to make me sick? I don't know if my family is okay. Is today the day?
Survival is full of uncertainty. Some things are not guaranteed to work. It seems that nothing is going right. And not knowing what's going to happen next or being in control, can be major stressors.
- But if we stay calm.
- Focus on the things that we can control.
- Have faith that things will work out in our favor.
- Be comfortable with uncertainty.
- And be prepared for things that can go wrong…will make us feel better.
Then we feel more hopeful. We start making better decisions. Now we can get out of danger. Then we can improve our situation.
Environment
When we have infrastructure around us, it's hard to notice how harsh our environment can be, but when we are in a survival situation, and we don't have access to shelter, water and food, we are reminded how unforgiving it is.
Terrain, weather, dangerous animals and even people…are all the things we have to worry about. But being familiar with the terrain, weather patterns, and which animals can be a source of food, and protection, plus surround ourselves with people we can trust; can reduce our level of stress.
Hunger and thirst.
Hunger and thirst can be a constant companion and a major stressor. And if we don't satisfy them, we eventually grow weak and die. So that is why getting access to food and water is a priority.
If we plan ahead, know where to look for food and water, we can overcome this stressor.
Fatigue.
Fatigue is a big source of stress, it wears us down, we don't think as clearly, we entertain our worst fears, we get less sleep, which adds to the fatigue.
Trying to sleep is a hard thing to do, but it is incredibly important to lessen the stress, and increase the probability of survival.
Isolation.
Humans are social animals, not only because we feel more safe with others watching our back, but also we have unique strengths that add to the aggregate skillset of the group which improves our odds of survival.
When we are alone, we have to depend on our own skills and resources, which can overwhelm us, and makes us feel more uncertain. We feel less safe, so we feel like we have to always be awake, which adds to fatigue and stress.
Finding others you can trust can stave off isolation, and lowers your stress.
In Conclusion.
Planning for and solving each one of these triggers, can lower your stress and improve your odds of survival.
You are not alone. You shall rise and overcome. You are powerful. And we are with you!
Stay frosty people.

Hello there!
I'm reading but I feel like I'm kinda lost, somewhat talking about surviving and to be honest I was waiting something after surviving, like surviving tough times, surviving animal attack or anything, but I was wrong, it's more general than I thought.
Those are actually factors that affect our everyday activity, and since we area talking about surviving, I would say it's about strong mentality that may maintain positive thoughts in such tough times which will help maintaining other factors in good state.
Thanks for sharing!
100% agree with you.
Survival psychology is very close to everyday psychology, it's just more intense. And we tend to forget about it more when we are desperate and hurting. We all need to be reminded of how important it is to keep a clear head, no matter what we're facing.
These posts were about the psychology of survival. Because you need the will to live, before you can live.
I'm going to post more about the logistics of survival in my next posts.
Thanks for the comment @lennyblogs.
Greetings @fijimermaid, in a risky situation as you mention, our system goes on alert and initiates a process where chemicals are secreted which are responsible for the impulses associated with anxiety, fear, anxiety and others.
Regardless of the reaction, it is normal that we act in this way, which is a pre-established condition in our system. Greetings
Once people embrace how normal it is, they can embrace solutions faster :)
I think that stress despite being detrimental to our health, in turn is necessary to make the body enter into a state of alert to any situation that threatens our survival.
Greetings and thank you for sharing such a valuable post.
100% agree.
Stress can be good, when it forces us to be more aware, and we understand that we have a big problem, and we need to find solutions.
Greetings @fijimermaid,
I will definitely agree with all the points you have mentioned above, When it comes to survival our mental health matters a lot along with the physical health
We have to stay calm, patient, focused, hydrated, and mentally prepared for whatever next thing to come,
You have explained the phycology and tips Very well,
I hope our friend @crypto.piotr would also agree to this
