What Is Your Take On This; "do what you love, then the money will follow?

in Project HOPE5 years ago

What is your first reaction when a person tells you they are about to quit their job so as to start a small business? You know it is quite easy to support a person who wants to get married, or buying a new building to supporting him/her to start a new business. This is because there are no guarantees that the business will be a success and there are going to be a lot of obstacles, so giving your maximum support might be very difficult.

The life of an entrepreneur is a life full of ups and downs. Becoming an entrepreneur is nerve-wracking, difficult, time-consuming, overwhelming, fun, productive, uncertain, goal oriented and challenging.

Being an entrepreneur or a business owner is what most people want to be for two reasons. First, because they are in love with an idea and the idea of starting a very specific business, secondly because they want to be their own boss. Nobody likes being tossed around by a nagging boss, so most times people want to be their own boss.

I hear a lot of people say things like “do what you love, the money will follow”. I will be supporting this motion in this post but I will want to hear your own view at the end of this post.

Seeing a lot of billionaire business people who started businesses, they started because they love their business and enjoy their business. Richard Branson started Virgin Music because he loved it, Bill Gates started Microsoft because he loved computers. It is a valid point that they didn’t start their businesses because they thought it would be a multibillion dollar company but because they had passion for their business.

It is believed that passion leads to purpose, it is believed that a person functions more when they are passionate about what they do. Never forget that your business becomes your baby when your start and you can’t care for a baby you do not love. Your business should be what you love, cherish and be willing to spend time with.

Do you go with this saying, “do what you love, then the money will follow”?

For what I have heard from some friends, to be an entrepreneur you have to have a strong dose of passion for what you do, have the willingness to work more than ever and face problems you never imagined before.

That sounds challenging and can scare you a little, but as far as I've known, none of these friends regret it.

As for the idea that money can come on your own if you work on what you like, it may not be so, but in reality, any money that arrives and allows you to continue with what you like can already consider a profit, so if you make a fortune or just get enough to move on, it seems that these friends would be satisfied in both cases, after all they are having fun.

Thanks a lot for your comment, some people do not go with the school of thought that doing what you love brings money while a few believes so. You have given a very understanding point from your view. Thanks

A lot of people get involved in business that they love for the pleasure of it while so many people create or invest in business because they love the money math. So they do not care about liking the fun in the business, they care about the profit and the maths.

I can decide to invest in a canteen business not because i love cooking but because it will fetch me more money.

do what you love, then the money will follow

Maybe, but not automatically. Let's say I love science fiction movies and series (I really do), and I am watching them all day. In 10 years I can be some sort of expert but still nobody will pay me for it.

To make money you have to sell yourself: Make a successful blog about movies (not easy), get a great good job in the entertainment industry (not easy). Or in some sort of other terrain related to (marketing company, state media supervisory organization etc.).
In general, making passive income is not so easy as many people think, I wrote about it on my blog.

ecoming an entrepreneur is nerve-wracking, difficult

That's it. Or a manager of some company, section of company.

I would say to them, build a good foundation first before starting a new business. It's because, nine businesses out of ten business died in five years and from those survivor, nine out of ten business again will die in ten years. Therefore, not always will money follow if you love what you do. Sometimes being broke will follow.

You are right, not all the time will doing what you love bring money, in some cases it comes with some things that are unpleasant.

Thanks for your contribution.

Indeed @cloudspyder. Most of those businesses will die within first few years.

Hope steem will not.

Dear @ajewa

Interesting choice of topic buddy. I used to hear that sentence many times in the past and I kind of disagree with it.

After all not everything we love can potentially bring money. Even if we're really good at what we do.

Indeed showing support to people who are planning to start their first business may be quite difficult. After all absolutely majority of those "first bizneses" fail within less than 2 years. That's just the way it is.

What I can say is "do what you love and you will not work one day in your life" - this sentence seem to be closer to my heart :)

And enjoy your sunday :)
Yours, Piotr

I also noticed that.. a lot of startups in my regions have failed even when the founders says they love their business. In that line as well, i have seen so many people who love to sing but do not make money even after recording several tracks while some other persons just buys a song from a writer, sings it the way he likes, add auto tuning and sound effects and sells to their audience with proper marketing and publicity stunts around, they make the fame and the money.

Sometimes i guess that quote isn't often right but some people go with the believe..

Thanks for taking time to read my post. Have a beautiful sunday.
