FYI: "Trending" algorithm is a product of Steemit INC
RESPONDING TO USERS
For users wondering why "the trending page" doesn't display like they're used to... specifically with some posts that have 0 rewards at the top or other posts that are older than 7 days. We just want to inform you the reasons.
"TRENDING" IS STEEMIT'S SORTING METHOD
The algorithm for sorting content that users know as "trending" is a product of and operated by steemit inc. Previously it was based on rewards and based on TIME as well.
They have made some changes to it.
- It appears they are allowing specially selected posts to be at the top that are not connected to time or rewards. This is up to Steemit INC.
EACH TOPIC IS A PAGE AND HAS SORTING OPTIONS
ALL TOPICS PAGE = Commonly refered to as "Trending Page"
What we call the ALL TOPICS PAGE with the Steemit algorithm for sorting other users call the "Trending Page"
YOU CHOOSE YOUR SORTING METHOD
The ALL TOPICS page that has had changes to the sorting method. It's your choice to use this sorting method. It appears most topic pages have been un-affected. Just the All-Topics that has been impacted.
Unfortunately there has only been 2 algorithms ever made and implemented both ran by steemit inc. They call them "trending" and "hot" ... Steempeak never implemented the "hot" sorting algorithm.
We hesitate to call "created" an algorithm as it's a straight forward sorting mechanism. However also controlled by steemit inc and their API in case you're wondering.
That's it ... we just wanted to educate you.
So it's not possible for SteemPeak to create it's own algorithm?
How so? You mean through machine learning?
Mine was a question. Being that SteemPeak can basically program its frontend, I was curious to know if they could also change their code to have an alternative trending page.
They could.
That's what I imagined. I've always wondered why they didn't create a better code for the Trending page.
Steempeak / peakd have a different trending page already.
My SteemPeak trending page is still the same as Steemit, with the exception of promoted posts.
Weird, my main page was always pretty different. Maybe I'm on the wrong page there =D
However, it's difficult to use a nice metric for a trending page besides payout.
Why r you still here on Steem? Come to hive!
