Achievement 2 @whakee: Basic Security On Steemit
Security on steemit is very essential to every user in this community. To be frank, without knowledge of securing our steemit keys, we would all be vulnerable and careless with our keys.
As part of my achievement task, I will say that I have successfully retrieved all the basic keys I need on steemit. These keys include my master password, Owner key, posting key, active key and memo key. Exploring the community has made me see the functions of each of these keys.
The master password is the most important and the least used. This is because it is used to generate all other keys and used only during account recovery. The Owner key is the next in order of importance. Being one of the most powerful keys, it is used while changing keys and is also used only to recover a compromised account.
The posting key allows for day to day steemit activities. Posts, comments, edits, voting, resteeming and following is made possible when you have the posting key.
To keep the master password safe, one can store it in a flash drive and also printing it out on paper or in other places that cannot be accessible to the third party, knowing that the master password is unrecoverable.
To power-up, the active key is used. It carries out other sensitive tasks that the wallet.
Go to profile, select 'wallet', under the first item “Steem”, choose transfer or power-up. You'll see something similar to the ones given below.
The memo key is essential for crypting memos during fund transfer.
Knowing the function of all these keys is very good and it will help to keep our community safe.
