Achievement 3 by @tanzim2 Task : Content Etiquette
You may be wondering what plagiarism is and is not. For those of you who do not know, it is when you take someone else's work and pretend that it is your own. It most often happens because people are seeking higher recognition for some type of achievement.
Today I am going talk about content etiquette for my achievement 3 .
The term plagiarism is used to describe cases where somebody else has taken another person's ideas without giving them credit. It is considered unethical because you are not respecting the other person’s work. But before we go any further let us define plagiarism for those who are not familiar with this term. The definition of plagiarism is:
“the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one’s own original work”. Source
Why does plagiarism matter?
The publishing world has a very strict copyright law. If you take someone else's work and claim it as your own, you will not get paid. You will also end up in legal trouble and may even go to jail.
What types of work can I plagiarize?
You can copy anything that is written by another person and not use quotation marks around the words that are being copied. Books, poems, articles, and plays are some examples of the kind of writing you can use for your own piece of work.
How do I recognize a good source for my post?
There are many different forms of sources to look at in order to discover ones that can be used for a paper assignment.
Why should you avoid plagiarism?
If you use another person's work, you will not get credit for the original idea that was written. Your paper will be graded with a lower score than it would have been if you had come up with an original idea.
Does this mean that I shouldn’t use the work of other authors?
No, it does not mean that. You just have to make sure that you are giving them the credit they deserve for their work. This means using quotation marks around their work and giving credit to be directly from their sources in your paper.
Then what about Unintentional plagiarism?
Unintentional plagiarism is when the person is unaware that they are doing something wrong. It is also very easy to recognize because often a lack of quotation marks can be enough to tell if someone has made an unintentional copy.
Why should I have quotes in my paper?
Quotations are important no matter what you are writing about. They make your post more professional and help remind your audience that you put some thought into the work you have produced. You can use newspaper articles or TV shows as sources for your post and quote directly from them instead of paraphrasing their work.
