Achievement 3 @tanveer741 Task: Content Etiquette
Hello steemians. It’s my third post on Newcomer’s Community. As I’ve successfully completed Achievement 1 and 2, now I’m writing Achievement 3 post to complete the next step of Newcomers Achievement Program.
In this post I’m going to share my learnings on Content Etiquette.
SourcePlagiarism is a common issue in the digital world. But the concept is much older, it’s happening since the ancient times. According to the Collins Dictionary, Plagiarism means:
the practice of using or copying someone else's idea or work and pretending that you thought of it or created it.
Every content creator wants their work to be appraised. To write an informative content, you may need to go through many other contents of similar topics. Sometimes you have to input images and quotations from other authors in your writings. But if you don’t mention the original sources, don’t give credit or claim as if it’s your own content, then it became a problem as you are being accused of plagiarism.
In the following points I’m trying to mention some simple tips to avoid plagiarism:
Do not copy and paste anything exactly from other author’s writings. Rather, write the idea in your own sentences as you have understood it.
If you really need to insert some lines from another sources, use quotation to indicate that you have taken the text from another author. You should quote those lines exactly as the original source from where you have taken it.
You must mention/cite the source of text or image that you have given input in your content.
If you are taking something from your own contents which you have published earlier, you should mention it and give the source links.
Before publishing your writing, review it with plagiarism checkers. There are a number of websites and software which can check your writing and show you the plagiarized sentences, if there is any.
If you follow these tips, the quality of your content will be improved, and you will get appreciation.
