Basic security on steem helps to ensure that our steem account is secure. To ensure this we have to do the following :

First, we have to keep our master password safe by saving it where it can be easily retrieved.

Second, when carrying out a task we only log into our account using the appropriate keys, for example posting key for every day normal logins, master password when we want to change passwords etc

NOTE: The master password is very important and should not be misplaced

As seen above we have different keys used to carry out different activities. Now we are going to discuss more about them.

(1) Posting Key : The posting key is used when a user wants to post, edit, comment, vote, follow other users, mute other users, and also resteem.

(2) Active Key : Active Key is used when a user wants to transfer funds, convert steem dollars, vote, update profile and also place a market order.

(3) Owner key : The owner key is the most potent of all the keys, as it can be used to change any of the other keys

(4) Memo Key : when transferring funds the memo key is used to encrypt and decrypt memos

HOW TO USE YOUR STEEM WALLET

To discuss this, we start by shedding more light on the three types of steem. They include; steem, steem power, and steem backed dollars (SBD)

STEEM : As seen in the picture above the area market blue is your steem. It is tradeable and can be transferred anywhere at any time and moment. Steem can also be converted to steem power through a process called or known as powering up.

STEEM POWER : The area market green is the steem power. It is a kind of investment in Steemit Inc & you. It gives you more influence, control over posts and payouts, it also help you to earn from citation rewards. It can also be converted back to steem through the process called powering down. This process takes 4 weeks

STEEM BACKED DOLLARS : The area market yellow is the SBD. It is similar to your steem as it is tradeable and can be transferred anywhere at any time

HOW TO POWER UP
To power up have to follow the following steps :

1. Click on the drop down box

1. Find and select power up. You will then be asked the amount of steem you want to power up.

1. Input the amount of steem to power up.

1. Finally click on power up. After some seconds you would notice that your steem power has increased.
