Achievement 2 @suffgrace Task : Basic Security on Steem
Hi Everyone,
Today I'm gonna be undergoing my Achievement 2 Task which has been quite an eye-opener for me, it's about all about wallet security. Sincerely I've learnt quiet a lot from this task alone you know sometimes we think we've done the best that can be done, until someone shows us the disadvantage in it. You know what let me just go straight into the task as I'll be showing you quite a few things I've learnt.
Retrieving Keys
This is a basic requirement before proceeding with registration to steemit, you'll have to download all needed keys which are all compiled into a pdf, after downloading you are good to go.
Functions of the Different keys and their restrictions?
Posting Key: I've learnt that posting keys are meant for the regular day to day login to carry out basic activities on the blockchain like post, comment, follow/unfollow e.t.c and these was done because, the more frequently a key is used, the more likely it is to be compromised. So the posting key can only get you to use an account but can't carry out any monetized activity like transfers.
Active Key: is a authorized key which is needed to carry out transactions like transfers, power up/power down, voting e.t.c, the active key gives access to all money transactions on the wallet.
Owner Key: is a very powerful key which has the access to change every other key associated to the account. And it should be stored offline and used only when wanting to change account password. Who so ever has the owner key of an account can change the passwords of the account and gain full access to the account(this is why it has to be kept very carefully.
Memo Key: This is used for encrypting and decrypting memos during transfers.
How to keep my master password?
I've learnt that the best way to keep all passwords safe is by keeping the master password safe. The master password is a key that reveals all other keys including the owners key, this shows us how important it is.
So the best way I can keep it save is to save it offline, saving this key offline has a lot of advantage in situations where a key is forgotten or lost it can only be recovered by using the master password. So it's best to write it down in a book or dairy
How to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?
This can be done by login into your steem wallet using your active password, click on the arrow beside the steem token balance, which will reveal a drop down box then click transfer, input the steem account to send it to, then tap the NEXT button and then OK.
How to power up STEEM?
This can also be done by login into your steem wallet using your active password, click on the arrow beside the steem token balance, which will reveal a drop down box then select power up, input amount to be powered up and then click the POWER UP button.
All these steps and precautions are very important in tge security of our wallets so let keep them safe and abide by all guildlines.
