TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

There are 4 different types of plagiarism which are:

  • Direct Plagiarism
Direct Plagiarism is a type of plagiarism whereby the offender copies verbatim (word to word) from someone else without adequate reference to the source or the use of quotation mark.

  • Self Plagiarism
Self plagiarism is more like repeatation of one's work on a different time frame. That is submitting one's old work or copying from it in regards to a new task or assignment.

  • Accidental Plagiarism
Accidental plagiarism just as the name implys is an unintentional act of not recommending the cite where one quotes or copies a work from or the unintentional act of not using quotation make when quoting someone else. The fact that this type of plagiarism is accidental doesn't nullify the consequences.

  • Mosiac Plagiarism
Personally I regard this type of plagiarism as colored plagiarism because the person involved mostly avoids using the exact words from the source rather he or she replaces them with words synonymous to them but still maintenance the same structure of the work they copy from without proper recommendation or the use of quotation mark. This type of plagiarism is common amongst smart students.

Some Causes Of Plagiarism

Some factors such as laziness, poor timing, low self exteem etc, can easily lead to plagiarism.

  • Laziness:

Laziness can easily lead to plagiarism in the sense that when one is faced with a task whereby one is required to make researchs and deliver efficiently, one might feel it's much more easier to copy an already existing work on the same topic other than stressing and surfing the web in search of tools that will serve as a guide.

  • Poor timing:

Poor timing also lead to plagiarism in a case whereby a student has wasted so much time and he or she is now left little or no time to cover a huge task, the student is most likely left with little or no choice other than to plagiarize in other to meet up with time.

  • Low self exteem:

Low self exteem is another factor that can easily lead to plagiarism. When one is not confident in oneself, one tends to rely on the works of another which one thought to be better.
Several other factors such as workload, stress etc can lead to plagiarism.

HOW TO CITE A REFERENCE

Citing is a major way of avoiding plagiarism so it's very important for every writer to know how to cite a reference. In other to show that a sentence or quote is borrowed, all you have to do is to add '>' sign and a space before the borrowed sentence.
See an example below:

Plagiarism is presenting someone else's work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement

In other to source a photo you got online, all you have to do is use the format below

See example below:
