Achievement3 task content etiquettes by @simba-sammy

in Newcomers' Community3 years ago

Hello fellow steemians, I bring unto you all greetings and well wishes. And I strongly believe that you are all doing great. I am very happy as I proceed to my achievement task 3 in the newcomers community. Achievement 3 seeks to enlighten newcomers on steemit on the etiquettes of the content written and plagiarism to be a little more precise. My first gratitude goes to @cryptokannon for the checking of plagiarism in entries of users so as to ensure that people post contents of their own authorship, and to @beniba for guiding me through this task.

Personally I define plagiarism as the mindless lifting of an author’s ideas, content or creative works without permission and using it as one’s own authorship. Usually this the case the case where citation plays a very vital role. Citation will be discussed in the subsequent entries of the same achievement task. One can make one’s work void of any form of plagiarism if one takes another authors content by the use quotation marks or openly mention that a part of the work was taken from another authors work. Plagiarism can be likened to the copyright law and the trademark. And just as the copyright law and trademarks, plagiarism has penalties if found ranging from the seizure of work, demeanor to one’s self and family, and probable imprisonment in complicated situations. Steemit does a very big deal by checking plagiarism from entries. this actually is a way of ensuring creativity among steemians. This makes steemians post entries solely of their own authorship. In some contest if not, all contests usually mention that plagiarism should be avoided what so ever the excuse may be. It is also prudent to note that all pictures that were not taken by the steemian himself or screenshot must be posted alongside its source to avoid plagiarism.

There are basically four types of plagiarism.
Direct plagiarism is the word for word transcription of a section of someone’s work without attribution and without quotation marks
Self-plagiarism occurs when a student submits his or her own previous work or mixes parts of a previous work without permission from all professors. This is commonly seen in students as mentioned
Mosaic plagiarism occurs when a student borrows phrases from a source without using quotation marks or finds synonyms for the authors language while keeping the same general meaning and structure from the original.
Accidental plagiarism occurs when a person neglects to cite their sources or misquotes their sources or unintentionally paraphrases a source by using similar words or group of words without attribution.

Why is the need to avoid plagiarism?

One of the most important reasons why writers should avoid plagiarism is because it is punishable by law and one may go through excruciating pain. It is also a demeanor to ones status and social standing in one’s community. In the steemit ecosystem, plagiarism reduces one’s reputation. When one’s reputation is reduced, one may not be legible to partake in certain involvements of the steemit ecosystem such as being a member of the crypto academy. To avoid plagiarism, one has to make sure all contents taken from different sources should be cited and quotation marks used. this is also website that one can use to check for plagiarism in entries before posting them.

Citation
This is a technique in writing where you tell readers that a certain part of the content was taken from another source and not of your own authorship. This is very crucial for all writers if they wish to hold reputation for themselves. there are many ways of citing a message, an example is to indicate the last name of the author whose content is been taken and the year of publication.
I have read and understood the steemit etiquette on steemit community and also will do my very best to embrace them.
