Hello steemians, Good day to all

Since we know that stealing money can be called a crime, similarly stealing information, thoughts, ideas, etc. can be called plagiarism, that is taking someone else's work, ideas, or written text and representing it as ours is called plagiarism. Dictionarydefines plagiarism as an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author.

Committing plagiarism might save our time for a short while but it comes at a high price. Depending on the course or institution or platform, if we do plagiarism, we might fail our course or can be expelled from the institution.
On the other hand, a citation is a formal reference to a published or unpublished source.

For Example, Steemit is a blockchain-based blogging and social media website, which rewards its users with the cryptocurrency STEEM for publishing and curating content, and is owned by Steemit Inc., a privately held company based in New York City and a headquarters in Virginia. Source

Since the source has been mentioned, it is not plagiarism.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISMS

  • Complete/Global Plagiarism: If we are Copying the entire work of someone else and representing them as our own work then it is called complete plagiarism. It is a very severe type.

  • Paraphrasing Plagiarism: It means rephrasing a piece of text, sentence, paragraph in our own words. It is the most common type of plagiarism.

  • Verbatim Plagiarism: When we just copy and paste other’s text and represent as our own text, it is called verbatim plagiarism. It also comes under the serious category.

  • Patchwork Plagiarism: If we copy phrases and ideas from different sources and put them together to create a new text and represent them as our own then it is called patchwork or mosaic plagiarism.

  • Self Plagiarism: If we are reusing our own work which has already been published earlier, then it is called self-plagiarism.

  • Accidental Plagiarism: This type of plagiarism is not done intentionally. When we write any text and unfortunately it matches with an already published source it is called accidental plagiarism.
