What is plagiarism? Recently, I watched on of key and Peele's comedy videos on YouTube. The infamous substitute teacher and other class compilations? No? You should check it out for a good laugh. In one of the videos, a guy steals another less popular guy's joke by saying it louder and at the opportune moment. The look on the original Joker's face? Yes! That's one major thing that plagiarism does. It causes pain to the originator. Creativity, like most things in life, does not come easy.

I know that some plagiarists would not be fazed by the mere mention of pain to some other distant creator they have never met. To them, please know that there are legal consequences to plagiarism. This article here States that the creator could sue you and there's the undesirable punishment of having to give away your money, fines. Please don't let laziness lead you onto this dark road.

Aha! Maybe you would like to avoid causing pain to these creators but you don't know what's considered plagiarism? For starters, learn to cite or reference your sources.

I'll go on to explain the other types of plagiarism you may not be aware of with help from sources I would be citing of course.

MOSAIC OR PATCHWORK PLAGIARISM
This may be unintentional. Maybe you read something somewhere and you have ruminated it to much that it sounds like you. You read from so many sources and it looks like somebody has already thought of your ideas. It's your own words but the concept? Not so much. Here's a tip. Whatever you're unsure of, research and make it easy for yourself in the long term.

PARAPHRASING PLAGIARISM
With this, you pretty much take a creator's ideas and switch up the words so that it comes out like you, knowing full well you didn't come up with the original idea.

COMPLETE PLAGIARISM
This type of plagiarism occurs when someone tries to submit an entire research paper as their own without proper attribution. Would you consider this brave or stupid? Well whatever your judgement, know that there are plagiarism detecting applications or checkers these days. Turnitin for one.

SELF-PLAGIARISM
“Also known as auto-plagiarism, self-plagiarism happens when you copy your own writing, whether intentional or not. Often the person in a self-plagiarism incident is summarizing or repurposing their own work instead of writing a whole new piece from scratch on the same topic”. Yes! This one could also cause you legal issues.

ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM
“Plagiarism doesn’t always happen on purpose. It’s still considered plagiarism when someone copies another’s writing without citing their source, improperly cites the source or leaves out quotation marks on accident. Just because the omission or incorrect citation was accidental doesn’t mean plagiarism hasn’t been committed. This is why it’s important to check any work and when in doubt, give your source credit.”

SOURCE-BASED PLAGIARISM
“This type of plagiarism refers to instances when misleading sources are involved. For example, the writer may have two sources of information but only reference one. Another form of source-based plagiarism would be when an author quotes a non-existent or incorrect source.”

“The worst type of this kind of plagiarism is when sources are fabricated. Making up information like study findings or statistics is extremely misleading and can even be harmful in the case of medical content.”

DIRECT OR VERBATIM PLAGIARISM
“Direct plagiarism, also known as verbatim or copy-paste plagiarism, is an intentional and unethical form of stealing content. As the name suggests, the writing is stolen word for word and pasted into the new piece. The author then tries to pass off the content as their own. A word or two might be changed, but this type of plagiarism is too blatant to be considered paraphrasing.”

I hope with the above source you now know enough about plagiarism to avoid it. One rule: cite your sources all the time.

I have read and understood the steemit etiquette on steemit community and would do my best to embrace them.

Curators Rate-2

Sure. Question? What influences the curator's rate? Oh and I noticed my achievement 2 wasn't verified but this was. How does that work? Can I skip achievement posts then?

I already checked it before I verified your task 3. As I wrote above you may now proceed to your Achievement Task 4.

Yes. Thank you. What influences the curator's rate though?

That's the rating you've got from me and steemcurator03 upvote depends on that rate.

I understand that's your rating. I want to know what I could have done to get a better rating. Do you understand?
