What is markdown?

Markdown is basically styling of your text or whatever you are writing. To make is simpler for you to understand, here's the simplest definition for Markdowns;

Markdown can be defined as a plain text formatting syntax used to write content on the web. It’s commonly used by writers and programmers to write quickly without having to take time using the formatting toolbar of text editors.

Markdown styles:

There are many markdown styles that can be used to make your content presentable, attractive and easy to understand for the readers. Below is the list for some of the basic markdown styles;

  • Bold
  • Headings
  • Italic
  • mentions
  • Centered text
  • Create a table
  • bullet list
  • Justify text

I will be explaining some of them below.

1. Bold text:

To bold a text you just need to put asterisks (**) before the text and after the text and the text will be bold like this.

2. Heading:

Headings are used to make your title prominent with proper styling. To make any heading you need to put hash (#) before the text then space and then write the name of your title. Similarly for second heading use two hash (##) then space and then write name of your title. same goes for third (###), forth(####), fifth(#####) and sixth(######) headings.
The results will look like this;

1. Heading

2. heading

3. heading

4. heading

5. heading
6. heading

3. Italic:

To make a text italic, you can use single asterisk (*) before the text and after the text, and that particular text will look like this.

4. Create a table:

To create a table use hyphen(-) to divide a list of words and this pipe ( | ) to divide the columns. below is the example how you can do it.

First header | Second header
---------------- | -------------------
Rimsha Zahid | rimsha26
Ayesha khan | ayesha33

So it will basically look like this;

NameUsername
Rimsha Zahidrimsha26
Ayesha khanayesha33

5. Bullet list:

To make your list in bullet form use an asterisk (*) then space and then make your list. It will look like this;

  • 1
  • 2
  • 3

That's all for my achievement 4. I hope you have understood the markdown styling that I have explained above. In Sha Allah see you in my next post. Allah Hafiz!
