Good day steemians, here's my own understanding of plagiarism

PLAGIARISM

So far, so good (smiles) This platform had set the stage for my being able to write as well as create contents independently. And when other wise, duely acknowledge its original writer or content owner by due referencing or citing.

Plagiarism is simply making use of someone else's idea or work (in this case writting/content) without due acknowledgements. When ever someone's work hs used, do well to give due credit by citing the content creator or formally taking permission through acknowledgement . This is to avoid the consequences that goes together with plagiarism.

IS PLAGIARISM CONSIDERED AS A CRIME?

Yes, plagiarism is unethical and anything that is unethical goes against guiding rules . In essence; plagiarism is a crime because:

  1. It is a form of theft
  2. It posses as a risk of threat to others
  3. The plagiariser benefits from the theft because he takes undue credit for someone's work

FORMS OF PLAGIARISM

There are some forms of plagiarism thus:

DIRECT PLAGIARISM

Direct plagiarism is the word-for-word transcription of a section of someone else’s work, without attribution and without quotation marks. This is when one copies a work word for word. It can also be called complete plagiarism.

ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM

Accidental plagiarism occurs when a person neglects to cite their sources, or misquotes sources of works or even when one unintentionally paraphrases a source by using similar words, groups of words, and/or sentence structure without attribution.

SELF OR AUTO PLAGIARISM

This occurs when one duplicates and uses a significant portion of his or her previous work without acknowledgements.

MOSAIC PLAGIARISM

This type of plagiarism interlays someone elses phrases or text within its own research. It is an intentional and dishonest act. It can also be known as patch work plagiarism

WAYS TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

  1. Make sure to always acknowledge the author of works that are not yours or contents not written by you.
  2. Inculcate the habit of writing, learn to develop your own contents, to avoid solely depending on others.
  3. Do well to cite the rightful owner of works if the need arises that you use them.

I have read, understood and accepted the steemit etiquettes that governs the steemit communities and i will do my best to abide by them .
