The popular adage, “there is no new thing under the sun” is normally used, however, the concept behind the adage, which implicates that we ought to give credit to whom credit is due for their work is swept under the carpet. Every author is proud of their work and would love to have people appreciate the value of the work and use them or share them. However not giving credit to their works complicates issues because you never identify them as the original creator of that content you are using, or you do not identify them properly.

This the term etiquette in simple terms defines as the rules and regulations that define the behavioral conduct of people belonging to a society, in this case, Steemit. Etiquette outlines the code of behavior in a society.
“Most of the etiquette experts agree that proper etiquette begins by showing respect for others, being honest, and trustworthy, putting others at ease and showing kindness and courtesy to others.”

Narrowing down to content etiquette, it simply implicates the rules that govern the creation, sharing, and the use of the content, either created by a person or quoted from another person’s work. Knowing these rules is critical of being part of writing society because it helps you to know how what content is accepted in that community and teaches you not to plagiarize anyone’s work.
Most of the time, we narrow content etiquette to only plagiarism, that is copying someone’s work without proper recognition of them being the original content creator. However, content etiquette goes beyond that lens of glasses. Content etiquette also includes the language tone used in your work that is uploaded. Are they rude, harsh, or abusive to readers? Content etiquette also governs the type of information that is added to the steemit society. It is therefore prudent that, every writer should read the content etiquette of the society for which they find themselves.
I see the ability to align to the content etiquette of a writing society as a skill and attribute every good writer should possess.
Plagiarism is one of the most discussed topics when it comes to content Etiquette with writing societies.

Plagiarism is a sort of cheating that involves the utilization of another person’s ideas, words, design, art, music, etc., as one’s own in whole or part without acknowledging the author or obtaining his or her permission
Some common types of plagiarism are
Direct plagiarism (copying another writer’s work with no plan to acknowledge that the fabric was found in an external source)

Insufficient citation of quotes (incorporating another writer’s words or phrases within a larger paraphrase, without quotation marks or citations.
Paraphrasing without citation (changing the words of a source, but the idea remains the same, without citing
Plagiarism in Graphs (using graphs, figures, charts, or images from a source without citing)
Misrepresentation of common knowledge (failing to cite, assuming the information is common knowledge)
