Achievement 3 by @papi.mati Task : Content Etiquette
What is Plagiarism?
Let's start this post from quoting the definition of "plagiarism" from oxford dictionary:
"Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition. Plagiarism may be intentional or reckless, or unintentional. Under the regulations for examinations, intentional or reckless plagiarism is a disciplinary offence." Source
Every time you use the quote from another website, without giving the source, you make plagiarism. It's not enough to change the language of your post or change few words for the synonyms. Each inspiration and quote requires marking as not your own, by writing the source right next to it.
plagiarism can be about text, but it can also be about photos, graphics, videos, and just about any other form in which you express your thoughts.
Why is it bad though?
Someone's thoughts or work related to writing articles are the intellectual output of such a person. when we decide to use someone else's intellectual property without identifying the author, we steal.
In fact, in many countries around the world, including Poland, from which I come from, such behavior is not only socially unacceptable, but is considered a crime and is punishable by high fines and even the risk of imprisonment for up to 2 years. (source)
So maybe... Just don't do it, m'kay?
