Achievement 2: Basic security on steem

Hello Steemians. I trust you all are doing great. Having done my achievement 1 post, I have gone ahead to make my achievement 2 post which is about basic security of our steem accounts and is intended to list the various steemit keys and what they are meant for.

There are two categories of keys for Steemit, namely: private keys and public keys.

The private keys include:

1. Private Active key: It is used for money related activities. This key can be used to power Steem up and down as well as transferring tokens.
   It is also used to convert SBD, place an order on an exchange, certain profile changes, vote for witnesses, publish a witness price feed and to create a new user.

2. Private posting key: this key is used to login to Steemit. It is also used to perform regular actions like publishing a post or comment. It is used to upvote or downvote.
   It is also used to edit a post or comment, resteem content, mute accounts and to follow people

3. Private owner key: This key is used to reset all your other keys and password. Also, if your account is hacked or compromised, the private owner key can be used to recover it within 30 days. It is recommended that this key is kept offline at all times.
   It can also be used to decline the voting rights.

4. Private memo key: This key can be used to encrypt private messages we send and also to decrypt private transfer memos.

5. Master key: Master key is the most important key. It is usually the first key given to the user to derive all other keys for the account. New passwords and PDF documents can be generated with the master key. This key should never be shared with anyone.

Public keys: They are associated with usernames and are used to encrypt and verify messages. They are not required for login.

Steemit Wallet

The Steemit wallet is very similar to the normal cryptocurrency wallets we use with only slight differences. Steemit wallet has 3-sub wallet all tied to steem, they are include:

1. Steem wallet - For the native coin
2. Sp wallet - To store steem power
3. SBD wallet - For steem based dollar

How to transfer steem/sbd from one account to another

• Log in to your account with your username and active key.
• Click on wallet
• Select the options button on the steem balance
• Select transfer.
• Put the amount you want to transfer and confirm it.

How to power up

• Open your profile
• Click on 'wallet'
• Tap the options button on the steem balance
• Select power up
• Input the required details in the second frame and your steem is powered up.
