I will first mention the history of folk sports as follows.

There is no doubt that the folk sports of the Hela, which were built together with the Buddhist cultural background, traditional heritage, theological concepts, agrarian and irrigation civilization methods associated with the life of the traditional Sri Lankans, were the secret of the physical and mental development of our forefathers at that time.

Professor Ludovic, who conducted research on the "folk sport of the countries of the Asian region," wrote in the Official Statement of the Royal Asiatic Society of 1873:

“Sri Lankan folk sports have developed in a unique context with many differences from other Asian countries. That folk sports identity is unique to Sri Lanka. Through these folk sports, the Sinhalese have introduced to the world the art of living together in harmony with other nations and communities. ”
-professor Lodovic-

History of folk sports....

History books also record that in ancient times, folk sports were highly regarded by the royal family. The role of King Seethawaka Rajasinghe, a great warrior, can be cited as an example of this. History testifies that they selected their most loyal servants and gave them positions to protect the folk sports and to give them constant crops for that purpose. History also states that during the reign of King Rajasinghe, sports such as Angampora, Ethpora, Gonpora, Kukulpora, Ukusu Keliya, Archery, Elephant Craft, Asu Haramba, Kadu Haraba and Mallawa Pora were very popular and were sponsored by the state.

I am going to mention now about the types of folk sports.

1. Home sports

You can use at home or in the building for this games.
For example,
Folk sports such as Pancha Keliya, Olinda Keliya and Nerenchi Drawing can be mention.

2. Outdoor sports

Outdoor sports fall into this category.
These include drumming, swinging, and cycling.

3. Sports associated with religious and divine concepts

For example:-
Horn playing, wrestling

4. Collective sports

These are the sports that are grouped together by several people.
For example:-
This time the game, the goat meal, the five games.

I will now present a brief explanation of two folk sports. It's about olida keliya and kaju krida.

Olida keliya..

There are two women participating in this indoor game which is played according to a mathematical method and the hand singing is done from the beginning to the end of the game. Singing tells you the tricks needed to win the baby game from birth.

The board is a prefabricated board. It is a board that is 10 to 14 inches long and 6 to 8 inches wide. 7 rows of rings on each side, 7 on each side. The board between the rows has two holes 2 at each corner. The Olinda board is also known as the Pearl Board and the Olinda Colombo. Valuable wood is used for this purpose. It is clear from the Guyana songs while playing this game that Olinda was born in Bangladesh.

Kaju krida...

Six nuts are enough for the game, which is popular among children. The cashews are all tossed up and down, and a finger is drawn between the fallen cashews. Once the two cashews have been fingered so as not to rotate, the cashews belong to the player who played the game and the person with the most cashews wins the contest.
