Achievement 3 by @mosman Task : Content Etiquette
Hello Steemit
Learning about content etiquette has really opened my eyes to understanding why it is important to make references to sources used in writing articles. Etiquette as a whole plays a very important role in our lives and it shouldn't be looked down on.
As a result of this achievement program's explanation of plagiarism, I now have a strong understanding of what plagiarism is and how to avoid it.
Here are a few things we should know about plagiarism
What is plagiarism
According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, to "plagiarize" means:
"to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own,
to use (another's production) without crediting the source,
to commit literary theft,
to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source."
Source
Put simply, plagiarism is using something you didn't make as if it were your own.
And this might include things like copying and pasting words or paragraphs from a publication without citing them, as well as exploiting someone's complete body of work because it is wholly yours
A plagiarist is someone who engages in this behavior.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
We have different types of plagiarism, they are Copy-and-paste plagiarism, mosiac plagiarism, Self-plagiarism and Global plagiarism.
Copy-and-paste plagiarism:
Direct plagiarism, often known as copy-and-paste plagiarism, is when a portion from a source is copied and pasted without a citation.
If you want to use someone else's exact words, you must quote and cite the source properly.
Mosaic Plagiarism:
Mosaic plagiarism refers to the use of phrases, sentences, and ideas from numerous sources to form a patch of other scholars' work that is not properly cited.
The words and ideas aren't new, despite the fact that the result is an entirely new piece of text.
Self-Plagiarism:
Self-plagiarism is when you reuse elements of your own earlier work without mentioning it
Self-plagiarism is a concern because your readers want new and unique content.
Global Plagiarism:
Plagiarism in its broadest sense refers to submitting a full work written by someone else.
this is the most serious type of plagiarism.
How to Avoid Plagiarism
Below are few ways to stop plagiarism
Always use quotation marks when copying from another author's work.
Make sure you credit your information's source.
Make your work unique by presenting it with your own concept.
To ensure you haven't plagiarized, use a plagiarism checker.
Conclusion
Being original is a source of pride, and when we use information from other sources, we must endeavor to credit them.
This adds to the sincerity and dignity of our work.
Plagiarism is stealing, and if detected, it may be punished as a criminal case, depending on the severity.
To avoid such an issue, one must first understand what plagiarism is and how to avoid it.
