Plagiarism in simple English means portraying someone else's idea as though they are yours. It also means presenting another author's work, language, idea, expression without due acknowledgement to the prototype of such idea.

The best thing to do when you appreciate another author's idea and wish to incorporate it is to seek the owner's consent.

The steemit platform is one that abhors plagiarism in its entirety and for such reason every new user is referred to the new comers community to learn content etiquettes before creating contents in steemit and most of all to learn how to refer to their sources of information.
Therefore, the art of giving credit to author's idea when citing their content is highly encouraged in steemit platform.

Basically, I will be talking about the types of plagiarism which users may not be in terms with and which may not be avoided unintentionally.

  • Direct plagiarism
In this type of plagiarism, the user is more intentional as his main aim is for the whole intellectual credit to come to home thereby depriving the main author of his glory. It is direct in the sense that the user copies another's work and pastes it as his own.

  • Mosaic plagiarism
This type of plagiarism is partial in the sense that the user acknowledges the author and real owner of a particular content in part without giving the full credit to him as the owner of the idea.

  • Accidental plagiarism
As the name implies, this is the type of plagiarism whereby the user cites the author erroneously or even lift the author's work incorrectly.

  • Self plagiarism
This is the type of plagiarism that is mostly seen in the educational sector whereby a student may duplicate the same work to more than one lecturer without their consent.

Ways to avoid plagiarism

  • By keeping track of some sources used in the course of your research.

  • Using plagiarism checker tool to always cross check your contents before publishing.

  • Always credit original author whose idea you Incorporated in your work.

Effects of plagiarism

  • It destroys ones academic reputation.
  • It discourages intellectual researches
  • plagiarized content adds no value to the community.

Conclusion

It was great doing my achievement task 3 as I can comfortably say that I have learnt about the content etiquettes on the steemit platform and promise to abide by it in publishing quality contents.
