DEFINING PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism is an act of copying, representing and claiming someone's work in place of yours, without the person consent.
OR
It the presentation of another author or writer language, thought or idea.

FORMS OF PLAGIARISM

• Verbatim quotation without clear acknowledgement
  Quotations must always be identified as such by the use of either question marks or indentationand full referencing of the source post.
• Cutting and pasting from the internet
  Information derived from the internet must be referenced and included with the bibliography correctly
• Paraphrasing
  Paraphrase the work of other by altering a few words and changing their order.
• Collusion
  Is all about unauthorised collaboration between students that fail to attribute assistance received or that fail to follow the rules and regulations on the group work/project
  etc.
  
  TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
  
• Direct plagiarism
  It involves adopting parts from the writing of another writer or author withou his/her permission or consent or without proper mentioning of the right source.
• Accidental plagiarism
  It is when the plagiarist misquotes the phrases or parts of the work he/she has taken from the source or didn't cite the right source adequately.
• Self plagiarism
  It is situation where students copy and past part of their already submitted work.
• Mosaic plagiarism
  It is an unintentional case the plagiarist may have mentioned the source of the content he/she referred to but didn't acknowledge the quoted part or put the quotation marks correctly.
  
  HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM
  
• Don't procrastinate with your research/assignment
• Commit to do your own work
• Cite your sources correctly
• Understand good paraphrasing
