What is Plagiarism ?

  • If we use someone's words, images or something that is not belongs to us without giving them proper credits , it can be defined as Plagiarism. Even getting someone's idea can be also defined as Plagiarism.

  • According to https://en.wikipedia.org ,

Plagiarism is the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work. Plagiarism is considered a violation of academic integrity and a breach of journalistic ethics. It is subject to sanctions such as penalties, suspension, expulsion from school or work, substantial fines and even incarceration. Recently, cases of "extreme plagiarism" have been identified in academia. Source

Plagiarism types

  • Global plagiarism - This is the common thing when we talk about Plagiarism. When we use someone's text as our own creation, this can be defined as Global plagiarism

  • Paraphrasing plagiarism - If we rephrasing someone else’s ideas without proper citation, it can be defined as Paraphrasing plagiarism.

  • Self-plagiarism - This is a common thing in Steemit. We should avoid doing this to keep the quality of our posts. So, if we use something from our previous post to create new post, it is still wrong. So, it can be defined as Self-plagiarism.

How do we prevent from Plagiarism ?

  • As we know Plagiarism is a bad habit, we have proper ways to use someone's ideas in our article. Than is know as Citation. It means we can give the credit to the original author. So, we can attach the link to the original post or we can mention original author's name. By this way, we can keep the quality of our work and even give the respect to the original author. We can do this when we use someone's photos, videos or any other things like paragraphs.

  • The most important thing is we must identify to get details from copyright free sources. It means, if we use someone's image, we have to get images without watermarks images. If we can see a watermark in any image, it means it is not allowed for attach in another place. So, we have to remember it in our mind.

Now i will give some example to avoid from Plagiarism.

If we want to use someone's Paragraph in our post, we can add it to our post like below,

Generally, plagiarism is not in itself a crime, but like counterfeiting fraud can be punished in a court[11][12] for prejudices caused by copyright infringement, violation of moral rights, or torts. In academia and industry, it is a serious ethical offense. Source wikipedia

So, above we can see I've mentioned original author and link to the original post. By that we, we can avoid plagiarism.

And also, if we want to use someone's image in our post, we can do like below.

Above we can see I've added someone's image with proper citation method. Also, this image is copyright free image.
