In this article, i'm going to discourse about plagiarism
What is plagiarism?
In layman understanding, plagiarism simply means copying someone's work without giving reference. But is this all what plagiarism means? No.
Plagiarism could also mean sealing. This involve stealing of peoples work or idea. It is stealing because, the person involved use someone's work and refuse to acknowledge the source of his or her information.
I remember when i was in primary school how our teacher do beat us if any of us copy someone's work or copy answer from someone. In those days i did not know that what we were doing is plagiarism. Even in my secondary school days , we do copy assignment from each other without knowing that we were plagiarising. In those days we call it helping each other. But today i have come to realize that what we were doing is plagiarism.
Today there are different types of plagiarism which i am going to discourse few of them here. They are:
1. Complete plagiarism
This is carrying someone's work and claiming the ownership. For instance, some students do collect someone's else project and change the back of the project, thereby putting their own name at the back of the work. This type of people that are involve in this type of act are the people who always want sharp sharp things. They don't want to surfer.
Some students today while giving assignment, they will just carry someone's work and put their own name on it and submit.
2. Source-based plagiarism
This type of plagiarism is when student or a person do work and give fake reference. Some people do formulate reference on there own and their reason is to have much citations but if you trace the source, you realize that the source of the information is fake. It does not exist.
3. Direct plagiarism (Copy & paste)
This is the type of plagiarism where by a writer or student copy someone's work directly without applying quotation mark (" ") to show that he or she is quoting someone. The person will just present it as if he is the initiator of the idea.
Direct plagiarism or copy and past plagiarism is popular today because of the use of laptop and android phones.
4. Paraphrasing without attribution
This is a situation where by student or writer changes the words of someone's else work there by claiming to be the ownership of the work.
For example of paraphrasing, see the picture bello
