Owing to the disabilities facing third world countries, an example of which are countries within the African continent, the study of history has been looked down upon as a discipline that possesses no much value, this, in turn, has become one of the factors that placed the course within its present range and state of no value in a country like mine; Nigeria to be precise.

The essence of history in a country cannot be overemphasized. My zeal to study history was therefore born out of the love I have for my country and the nationalistic zeal to seek changes that will transform the living standard of its citizens.

It is no doubt that history has existed as a part of human life from time memorial and it has helped to shape many societies and it is still shaping many societies. A lot of people have had to look back to their past to correct mistakes that are made in the present. A lot of people have had to look back into past experiences in order not to repeat certain actions that will bring ruin and disaster, and this is, therefore, the standing point and the objectives of historical scholarship. No society can grow without recognising its history as it stands as a shaping tool and directory map, and this is what many societies have failed to put into consideration.

I love history because it's an eye-opener on the reasons for a lot of occurrences in our society, and I believe that history has a lot of roles to play to correct false actions and notions, and putting history into consideration will put things in place, especially in Africa.
