I was heading back from work late in the evening when I encountered three imposing men in the middle of the street. One of them was unmistakably armed with a gun, while the others brandished knives.

"Give me everything you have," I contemplated resisting, but everyone seemed to disregard my predicament as they walked by. So, I realized it would be futile.

They confiscated my phone and the little money I had. I believed that would be the end of it until I saw a white light and lost consciousness. I regained consciousness a few minutes, perhaps hours later, in an unfamiliar bed. Some kind-hearted individuals had come to my aid and helped me regain consciousness.

Now that I was fully awake, I managed to use their cell phone to call home for help. Everything was starting to look up until it dawned on me.

"They stole my phone"

The first thing that hit me was "How about all the money I had earned on Steemit"
What about the account that I had spent all this months, years working on.
How can I retrieve them back.

I was negligent towards taking the appropriate precautions to store my keys safely to avoid this type of situation.

This might only be a fictional write up but it has happened to a lot of people out there, we can blame laziness or misinformation but the effort you'll take to secure your keys is essential to how long and profitable you want to stay on this platform.

The keys are assigned to everyone upon signing up, they are unique so they can't be easily copied by anyone unless they have access to where they are stored which is why you should keep it. I should make more emphasis on this. It is UNRETRIEVABLE. So if you lose it, it's gone.

Each key has a specific function but the most important of them being "THE MASTER KEY".

Making reference to the lord of the rings, Sauron's ring of power was created to rule all the other rings. Imagine just how much power that ring possessed that the heros all had to unite to try and destroy it. Yes. The MASTER KEY controls all the other keys (posting key, Active key, Memo key e.t.c)

Having understood the importance of this key, you now know why it has to be kept because "in the wrong hands, it can do a lot of damage".
