Hello steemians, I'm delighted to write about the basic security on Steemit.

what is security

Security is a way of protecting something of value. In an online platform such as steemit, security is highly required to protect one's account from hackers who are tirelessly looking for opportunities to hack into people's account which is why after receiving my keys I've secured them until when needed.
After going through the article posted by @cryptokannon, I'm here to talk about the basic security on Steemit which consist of strong combinations of letters and symbols which help in protecting one's account.

Types of Steemit keys and their functions

Posting key

---

This posting key help users to publish a post, edit for correction or addition of more content, upvote, comment, down vote, follow people and to mute accounts. The good thing about posting key when lost is that the key has a limited set of permissions like it can not be used for monetary actions so your money is saved when your posting key is stolen.

Active Key

---

This active key works hand in hand with the wallet. It can be used to transfer tokens, power steem up or down, SBD conversion, voting for users, place an order on an exchange, certain profile changes, publish a witness price feed and create a new user.
If this key is stolen the person can easily transfer SBD to another account.

Owner key

---

In my opinion I will say the active key is a KEY OF KEYS because it's required to change the other keys. This key can be used to recover account or change other keys as well as decline voting rights. It's the most important key and should be securely stored offline.

Memo key

---

This key is used for encrypting and decrypting memos when transferring funds.

Master password

---

The master password is a key you get upon signing up and it's used to retrieve other keys after signing up.
The master password is secured offline and used only in case of account recovery.

All the above keys apart from the master password can be located in wallet and then on keys and permission.

How Steem are transfered from one user to another

My Active key is used to open my wallet. Then I click on the steem arrow under STEEM which then reveals a menu with various options,then i click on transfer option.

After clicking the transfer option, another page is revealed where the account and amount to be transferred is required

For Steem power up, the same procedure is repeated but instead of the transfer option, the power up option is used.

To power down, I first login to my wallet with my Active key. Then click on the Steem under STEEM POWER which reveals a power down option

I can now fill in the amount I want to power down and submit by clicking the Power down button.
