Before writing anything, I have already read the articles published by @steem.history. I understand how stopping plagiarism would help the real creator and the original content writers, how their rights can be saved and how we could be more help full to the real gems in the field of art, writing, photography painting drawing etc.

This article is all about content etiquette on the steemit platform. The article is about what is plagiarism, the various forms of plagiarism, how to find plagiarism and how to cite sources when you use them as a reference.

1) What is plagiarism?

In simple words, Plagiarism is stealing someone else idea and presenting them as yours.

If we surf plagiarism on google it says "Plagiarism means presenting someone else’s work as your own. In academic writing, plagiarizing involves using words, ideas, or information from a source without including a proper citation.SOURCE"

Plagiarism is not limited to only stealing the text of other's, it also includes Copy-pasting someone else's idea or content, Re-using the previous post, stealing someone else's story, music, images, and a lot more.

In order to use someone else's content, you need to cite it or mention it in your work.

sometimes you need to take permission from original content makers to use it in your content.

2) How to stay away from plagiarism?

Steemit platform is created for the original writer, musicians, and artist. if you copied someone else's work then you are doing a heinous crime on the steemit. steemit make to support original work.

There are certain points that will help you stay away from plagiarism.

  1. Don't use someone else's content.
  2. In some blog you will need some images to drop, either you create them by yourself on photoshop or adobe illustrator or use it by proper citation.
  3. Do not forget to mention someone else's content via citation or dropping link of below your content in the format of [source] (link).
  4. Making aware people of plagiarism.
  5. Read the super post created by @steem.history to avoid certain bad habits we often do while blogging. Visit

3) If you did plagiarise, either you have to pay compensation or dragged to court

We have been always thought that never steal someone else's things or from them or never take someone's work credit on your head because it is believed to be bad behaviour here in India.

I have an interesting example of how doing plagiarism made "know out" movies makers pay 1.25 crore to phonebooth movie makers 20th Fox studio when dragged to Bombay High Court.

In 2010, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation sent a legal notice to the producers of the film, ‘Knock Out’, for infringing the copyright of their 2002 film, ’Phone Booth’. The producer of Photo Booth, Sohail Maklai Entertainment Ltd., denied all the allegations, this led to a suit filed by the makers of Photo Booth, in Bombay High Court, alleging copyright infringement and praying for an injunction. The matter was settled by the parties later where Sohail Maklai paid 1.25 crores to Fox Studios.SOURCE

There are numerous other cases of plagiarism you will find in Indian cinema someone are copying few scenes, someone steals entire songs or some dance steps, someone copy entire movies without being guilty. It happens a lot in other countries as well. I personally believe that Bollywood is synonymous with plagiarism.

Do whatever you like but Don't be like a BOLLYWOOD.

4) The benefits of avoiding plagiarism

There could be a long list of the benefits of avoiding plagiarism but I will let you know a few which will definitely put you in a state of deep thinking before stealing someone else's creation without giving proper credit to the original creator.

  1. You will be known as a real artist, musician, writer, researcher, and painter, etc.
  2. You will be deeply satisfied once you create something by yourself.
  3. Your real work will be sooner or later appreciated by other artist or steemit.
  4. you will inspire other newbies to not fall for plagiarism.
