Achievement 3 by @happyclarity Task : Content PROTOCOL

in Newcomers' Community2 years ago (edited)

Hi, everyone. I am enthusiastic about sharing my achievement 3.

Here, I would write about Content Protocol- plagiarism.

I have learned that Steemit is an online platform that places great emphasis on posting original and quality contents in congruence with its terms and standards.

What is Plagiarism?
This is the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own.
It is the act of copying someone's work without a credit/citation.
I wholeheartedly agree that when someone's publication is copied, it should be acknowledged or cited by adding "quotes" > formation.

Adding Citations
A "citation" is the medium you tell your readers that certain reference in your work originated from another source
As a new user on steemit, I understand that it is ethical to avoid copy-pasting someone else work to avoid a negative perception of my status.
Making reference to someone else's piece without proper authorization or creditation, presenting an existing content as new work, failure to add citation in passages, adapting to paragraph arrangement are all referred to as plagiarism.
Every copy/pasted sentence must be in quotes “” or on the alternative formatted using the > markup. This is to prevent me from an academic dishonesty termed:Plagiarism

For example:

“Show your kids that needs and wants are two different things. The best way to teach our kids to be smart consumers-and savvy savers - is to model good behavior for them.”-Jean Chatzky quote (source)

When I want to add some images to my blog, sites like pexels, pixabay, freepik photostock, shutterstock, unsplash offer me free access to images. However, I need to add the link source of the image to my post.
Adding the linked sources, helps me know see where the information came from and how it was originally presented. When I write my post citing sources, it increases the value to my blog and reader. It allows my reader to learn more by clicking on the sources and it presents my contents in a professional way. It also prevents me from being sanctioned for plagiarism.

In addition, I understand there are seven traditional types of plagiarism which include:

DIRECT/VERBATIM PLAGIARISM:
This implies copying someone else's work without giving proper credit.
Copying and pasting is a form of plagiarism. This type of content theft is frequently willful and unethical. The writing in this instance has been copied word for word and put into the new work. The new author then claims ownership of it.
PARAPHRASING PLAGIARISM
Here, the original concept is expressed in your own words. However, your text is too similar to the original.

COMPLETE PLAGIARISM:
It means copying and pasting content in its original words without proper attribution.

SELF-PLAGIARISM:
This implies copying your earlier work or your previous post instead of creating a whole new piece on the same topic.
MOSAIC PLAGIARISM: This implies conforming mildly or repeating another writer’s phrases without proper accreditation.
ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM:
This happens when someone extracts information from a piece without explicitly referencing the source.
Nothing about this is deliberate or on purpose.

SOURCE-BASED PLAGIARISM:
Instances of this kind of plagiarism use misleading sources.
For instance, if you have two sources of information but only cite one of them, or if one of your sources is false or nonexistent.

How to Avoid Plagiarism
The following are ways to avoid plagiarism:
1.Add credit to sources where you obtain royalty free images for public use such as:
https://pixabay.com/
https://www.pexels.com/royalty-free-images/
http://www.clker.com/
2.Recording the sources you use for your research

3.When conducting research, read the sources you are using and then rephrase the material.
4.Provide a "References" section at the bottom of your post with a link to your source.
4.For academic researches, use formatting and style guide such as Modern Language Association (MLA), American Psychological Association (APA), etc

5 Write your articles in Microsoft Word: Word can help you create your citations and references section.
6.Utilize a plagiarism detector before submitting your contents such as grammarly.
