Hello good evening guys, I must say I'm quite overwhelmed with the kind of reception my colleagues have given me. Your encouragement and support has really helped me a lot and just wanna say a very big thank you to the entire team that are ensuring newbies like me enjoys our stay on the stemit blockchain.

Reading about steemit presented to me a platform to showcase my talent and writing skills. Steemit always want the best from its members and they want their work to be genuine as good as possible and just as the word says Plagiarism as an offence so does steemit also.
This is what this post will be talking about as part of my knowledge about the topic Plagiarism.

What is Plagiarism

Plagiarism simple put is claiming owner of one's work without their approval or referring them as the source.
According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, to "plagiarize" means:

  • to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
  • to use (another's production) without crediting the source
    *to commit literary theft
  • to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.

Source

So from the definition by Merriam-Webster online dictionary, plagiarism is a serious offence and is punishable by law.

But Can words and Ideas be stolen

According to U.S. law, the answer is yes. The expression of original ideas is considered intellectual property and is protected by copyright laws, just like original inventions. Almost all forms of expression fall under copyright protection as long as they are recorded in some way (such as a book or a computer file).
Source

Plagirism can be in the form of videos, music and images without citing the proper source. Most images on the internet does not have copy-right free and for that we cannot used it for our own purpose without the approval from the owners of those images.

Steemit embraces original works and that is why it is social media platform, That means we can share anything around us in our words by not plagiarizing.

How Do we Avoid Not Plagiarize
In as much as we want to to stay genuine, we must be original and produce our work on steemit platform and where it deems necessary to quote or use an image or probably a video, we must use copy-right free and cite the sources to prove that it really does not belong to us.

I believe going forward on steemit, I will be able to produce more quality work, because "I have read and understand the Steemit Community Steemit protocol and will try to comply with it to the best of my ability."
