ACHIEVEMENT 3 by @emmanuel096 TASK : CONTENT ETIQUETTE
Good day dear Stemians!
Gradually coming to comprehend the working principle of this platform, and having completed my Achievement 1 and 2 successfully on “Introduce yourself” and “basic security on steemit” respectively, I decided with unalloyed gratitude in my heart towards the founders of this platform and to my friend @eloksjoseph to proceed with Achievement 3 on content etiquette, which I have found really interesting, as the old timers do say
In simple terms it mean reward is a function of hard work, which apparently pours out on the topic of this task titled content etiquette . So I will be sharing with you guys on my knowledge about plagiarism, and a vital questions to ask is" There’s no food for a lazy man " ~ anonymous
WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?
Having seen Steemit as an open platform in term of writing i.e creating CONTENT in accordance with her terms and conditions contextually known as ETIQUETTE ;
" the set of rules or customs that control accepted behaviour in particular social groups or social situations. " source
Which means in a platform like this, a proof of one’s ability (which must be self- oriented) comes in handy regarding earnings, therefore the import of creativity can not be (is not) unvalued or unnoticed in this platform. And of course, one's ability to create quality content will be directly proportional or related to his study, which means need may arise to give reference to what you studied. This is called CITATION. we can therefore define citation as giving reference to another person work that you intend to employ in yours, or telling your audience that this particular piece of work I included in my research is not by any means my work (but will aid such a one's understanding). This is simplicity at it very best!
In a case where by the writer decides to take credit or accolades for what isn't his, such is said to have plagiarized. This is therefore called PLAGIARISM
We can therefore view plagiarism as an act of claiming a content which is not yours or seeking accolades or credit for a content that is unmerited on your path, which is quite shrewd.
HOW THEN CAN YOU SITE YOUR WORK
PROPERLY?
There's a proper way of citation, as simply saying "this text is from Emmanuel's work" for example is not good enough. And every content you employ from someone else's work, should be cited mandatorily. How? A link to the particular page you cited from will be required i.e for every single content you cite, a corresponding link to the cited content must be accompanied. Every single sentence or phrase you intend citing ( by coping ) should be placed in double quotation or cited using the greater sign (>) known as a html mark up. In a case where you intend paraphrasing, it's origin should also be indicated. Let's look at some practical example;
EXAMPLE OF CITATION
My name is Emmanuel Onyeaka a nationality of Nigeria." Nigeria is officially the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is a country in West Africa. It is the most populous country in Africa; geographically situated between the Sahel to the north, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south in the Atlantic Ocean; covering an area of 923,769 square kilometers, with a population of over 211 million. " sourceNigeria is a federal republic comprising 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, where the capital, Abuja, is located.source
The above example for clarity sake, can be splited into three different sections;
My name is Emmanuel Onyeaka a nationality of Nigeria.
Nigeria is officially the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is a country in West Africa. It is the most populous country in Africa; geographically situated between the Sahel to the north, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south in the Atlantic Ocean; covering an area of 923,769 square kilometers, with a population of over 211 million.
Nigeria is a federal republic comprising 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, where the capital, Abuja, is located.
The first section is the only original content generated by the author himself.
My name is Emmanuel Onyeaka a nationality of Nigeria.
The second section was copied without alterations or any form of paraphrasing, hence the essence for the quotation mark.
" Nigeria is officially the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is a country in West Africa. It is the most populous country in Africa; geographically situated between the Sahel to the north, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south in the Atlantic Ocean; covering an area of 923,769 square kilometers, with a population of over 211 million. " source
Lastly, was copied but paraphrased.
Nigeria is a federal republic comprising 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, where the capital, Abuja, is located.source
This is how citation is been done, as the sources when clicked on are guide to further study, and accolades to whom it is due, and overall makes your content looks professional.
For free images, you can use any of these (remember to also source your images);
