Achievement 3 by @eberechi Task : Content Etiquette

Good day Steemians,
Below is my submission on Achievement task 3

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

We see plagiarism as an act of misrepresentation.

Presenting another individual’s work as your original work.

It involves the use of ideas, words, pictures, content and information without providing a source.

In other words, said person did not include a proper citation.

Like the picture dsplayed above, it’s just someone copying and pasting information that belongs to another. It is a rather frowned upon act.

Plagiarism is not easily overlooked anywhere. It comes with grave punishments for anyone caught in the act.

There is absolutely no excuse to cover for this act, not even in the case of an “accident”.

In order to completely avoid this act of plagiarism, it is not only important but absolutely crucial to monitor and keep track of your sources, so as to correctly cite them.

There are different types of plagiarism in existence:

  • The copy and paste type:

This type is really the worst. It is called direct plagiarism.

The individual is practically copying content without citing its source.

  • The mosaic type:

source

This involves adaptation of phrases, passages, sentences, words and ideas from different areas in order to create a mosaic or mesh work of people’s work.

Again, this is done without proper citations.

The difference being in result only.

  • The self type of plagiarism:

This might appear quite confusing, but it isn’t.

Self plagiarizing is when you reuse some parts of your previous personal work without any form of acknowledgement.

That is acknowledging that you submitted the same work but for a different reason.

This is a problem, because it is actually expected of you to keep on with new and original content.

CITING REFERENCES

To cite reference sources, we make use of the following signs: [] and ()

Example of a Citing Reference

Uploading a screenshot:

reference 1.PNG

After i did this, i copied the link of the page and inputted it as follows:

source

The following screenshot shows how it would be referenced before upload:

snip.PNG

The bracket in red would show what you would like the link to appear as.
The bracket in green would carry the actual link of your source.

It should appear like this:

source.PNG

That's about it for citing references.

CONCLUSION

Plagiarism is really horrible and should be aggressively discouraged in all aspects of research, writing and content creating.

Individuals should be encouraged to step up their creativity level and explore new horizons.

Unfortunately for people who still enjoy plagiarizing, there is this community on steemit that bears the sole aim of exposing plagiarized content @endingplagiarism.

They are to be tagged if any suspicious acts of plagiarism is noticed.

I have studied the steemit etiquette, read and re-read it on the steemit community and I will do my possible best to embrace them.

Thank you for reading through this post.

I hope it was impactful and informative enough.

Special thanks to @cryptokannon and everyone else.
