Achievement 2 @chibuzorwisdom Task : Basic Security on Steem
Basic security on Steemit has to do with understanding how well to safe guard you account unique keys from unknown users and cyber hackers.
Question 1: Have you retrieve all your keys on steemit?
Most certainly I have. Back then in 2018 I joined steemit I was perplexed at the number of words that made up my password.
I instantly thought of saving on google docs then transfer it to my system. Over the years I have changed keys twice when I felt compromised.
My current keys that is:
- Private Posting Key
- Private Active Key
- Private Owner Key
- Private Memo Key
Have all been retrieved and stored in various storage units so as;
- Hard copy
- Google drive
- Google spreadsheet and
- Clipboard
Question 2: Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions?
Each key has is specific functions unique to it. A key cannot double as a posting key and as a wallet key. The specific functions and restrictions of the various keys are as follows;
Posting Key
This key is used to post write-ups, comment on other people's post, edit already posted blogs, vote posts, resteem posts, and follow or mute other accounts when necessary.
Active key
This a wallet related key meant for transferring funds to other accounts, power up or down steem, converting Steem Backed Dollars (SBD) to steem and vice versa, voting for witnesses in the blockchain, updating profile details and pictures, and placing a market order in the market.
Owner key
This specific key is only used when and where necessary. It is the most important key because it can be used to change any of the keys of an account, including it's own key. It should be guarded well and should never be compromised.
Memo key
The memo key is used send encrypting and decrypting memos or messages when transferring funds. In order to encrypt a memo, use the /# sign before it.
Question 3: How do you plan to keep your master password?
It's worthy to note that Master password or key exists and it has long characters like the other keys. It's the first password given to a user when creating an account and it's very important too.
This key is then used to generate all the other keys. When going through account recovery process this key is used. It should be stored safely because it's your second line of defense when trying to recover a stolen or hijacked account.
Question 4: Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?
In subsequent times I've been able to send steem to various users. Here's a screenshot of my latest transaction.
Transfer to @campusconnectng
I logged into my steemit wallet. I clicked on Steem. Then a list came down then I chose Transfer
Question 5: Do you know how to power up your STEEM?
To power up, I logged into my steemit wallet and did the following
